The purpose of this study is to examine the Rancière's idea of emancipation and equality, and to draw implication for the teaching from theses concepts. Rancière insisted that existing logic of emancipation is based on inequality, dependency. Therefore, he suggests alternative way to understand the concept of emancipation and equality. In his book The Ignorant Schoolmaster, Rancière assured that intelligence of all human beings is equal through Joseph Jacotot's 'universal teaching'. In traditional education, teaching is regarded as teachers' explication, and it makes students become dependent and stupid. Because it is fundamentally based on intellectual inequality between teachers and students. In contrast the pedagogy of traditional education, Rancière doesn't conceive of education as a process that starts from inequality in order to bring about equality, but that was based on the fundamental assumption of the equality of intelligence of all human beings. Also emancipation is about using one's intelligence under the assumption of the equality of intelligence. Universal teaching makes emancipation possible because it is based upon emancipation. In short, to let students be independent and have subjectivity, educational goal should starts from intellectual equality, and they can become emancipated people themselves. For students' emancipation, teachers need to be emancipated themselves first, and try to reflect on themselves and change their recognition about teaching.

이 연구는 가르침의 보편적 성격을 밝히기 위 해 평등과 해방의 개념을 중심으로 한 랑시에 르의 사상이 가진 교육적 함의를 고찰해보고, 이것이 가르침과 배움에 줄 수 있는 시사점에 대해 탐색하는데 목적을 두었다. 랑시에르는 기존의 교사 중심, 설명 중심의 교육 형태를 ‘바보 만들기’라 비판하며, 교육적 평등과 해방을 새로운 관점에서 정의하고 있다. 그는 평등은 도달해야 할 목적이 아닌 출발점이라 보고 있으며, 모든 지능은 평등하다는 의식을 가지고 지적 주체로서 지적인 자유를 가지도 록 하는 것이 진정한 해방이라 말한다. 이를 위해 교사는 무지한 스승이 되어 보편적 가르 침을 널리 퍼뜨리는 역할을 해야 하며, 이를 통해 학생들은 독립적이고 능동적인 주체로서 타인의 삶이 아닌 자신의 삶을 살아가게 된다 고 한다. 이러한 랑시에르의 평등과 해방에 대 한 해석과 무지한 스승의 보편적 가르침은 여전히 주입식, 설명식 중심의 한국 교육 현실에 서 진정한 가르침과 배움이 가지는 의미에 대 해 근본적으로 고찰해볼 수 있는 여지를 마련 해주며 교육이 나아가야 할 하나의 새로운 방향을 제시하고 있다.
