The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of environmental education using forest activities on young children’s environment-friendly attitudes and science process skills. The subjects used in this study were 44 young children who attended a kindergarten in G city. The mean age of the subjects was 67.87 months. The experimental group participated in environmental education using forest activities while the comparison group participated in forest activities. It used ‘The Environment-friendly Attitudes Test’ and ‘The Science Process Skills Test’ in the collection of data. A t-test was used to analyze the data. Significant effects of experimental treatment were analyzed. It was revealed that there are significant differences between the experimental group and comparison group in the post-test score of environment-friendly attitudes and science process skills. In conclusion, the results of this study suggested that environmental education using forest activities which were developed in this study would be relatively effective to develop young children’s environment-friendly attitudes and science process skills.

본 연구는 숲 체험활동을 통한 환경교육이 유아의 자연친화적 태도 및 과학적 탐구능력에 미치는 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 연구대상은 G시에 위치한 유치원 만 5세 유아 44명으로 실험집단과 비교집단을 임의로 선정하여 실험집단은 숲 체험활동을 통한 환경교육을 실시하였으며, 비교집단은 숲 체험활동을 통한 자유놀이 활동을 실시하였다. 연구결과 숲 체험활동을 통한 환경교육을 실시한 실험집단이 유아의 자연친화적 태도의 ‘동․식물의 관심과 애호’, ‘생명에 대한 존중’, ‘인공적 환경보다 자연환경에 대한 선호’에서 긍정적인 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 과학적 탐구능력의 예측하기, 관찰하기, 분류하기, 측정하기, 토의하기 등의 모든 영역에서도 긍정적인 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과 숲의 다양한 모습을 보고 느끼고 탐색하는 숲 체험활동을 통한 환경교육이 자연생태계의 다양한 모습을 보고 느끼고 체험함으로서 유아의 자연친화적 태도와 과학적 탐구능력 향상에 도움을 주는 활동으로 밝혀졌다.
