Aleksey Losev’s Philsosophy of Name (1927) is known to be the most representative of his early writings. The purpose of this paper is to study the theoratical, specially, phenomenological background and the methodological characteristics of Philosophy of Name. Losev tried to prove the visibility, tangibility of eidetic property as a meaning of name or word and its concrete expression like an alive sculpture by phonetic and literal symbols on the basis of Husserl’s Phenomenological theory. But Husserl’s phenomonology rejects the concept of objective research. Phenomenologists prefer grouping assumptions through a process called phenomenological epoche. So Losev derives so called ‘dialectical method’ from Platonism and Neoplatonism. Philosophy of Name could be a Losev’s monumental work in which he demontrated his potential as a philosopher, explaining originally how name or word developing its meaning with the help of his dialectic method.
