Ministry of Health-Welfare in Korea carries out national surveys of Public Oral Health every 3 year since 2000. However, the indices were presented independently and the interrelations between data were not well documented. Furthermore, the prevalence of oral bacteria was not studied. S. mutans is known to play central role in dental caries induction. In this research, we studied teenager's oral health by analyzing oral samples along with the questionnaires. The interrelation in several indices collected from the questionnaires were analyzed for the interrelationship in S. mutans distribution. From this study, we found out that students who had dental caries in the past had higher level of S. mutans in their mouth and who had higher number of oral bacteria had higher chance of having S. mutans.

우리나라 보건복지부는 2000년부터 매3년마다 국민구강건강 실태조사를 시행한다. 하지만 각각의 지표들 이 독립적으로 제시될 뿐 상관관계에 대한 자료는 없고 미생물 분포에 대한 조사는 이루어지지 않는다. 구강 미생 물 중 S. mutans는 충치 유발에 핵심적인 역할을 하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 청소년의 구강건강 설문조사와 더불어 구강샘플을 채취하여 여러 지표들과 미생물의 수 그리고 S. mutans의 분포의 상관관계를 분 석해보았다. 그 결과 구강내 S. mutans 존재 여부에 대한 PCR 분석에서 양성으로 판독된 학생들은 과거에 충치 경험이 있는 경우가 많았으며, 총 구강미생물 수와 S. mutans의 존재사이 상관성이 있음을 보여주었다. 여학생 이 남학생보다 충치의 빈도가 높았는데, 양치횟수와 충치빈도 및 총 구강미생물의 수 사이에 상관성이 없는 것으 로 보아, 충치빈도와 S. mutans의 존재여부는 양치횟수보다는 양치방법이나 식습관등과 상관성이 있을 가능성 이 높다.
