This essay attempts to find the possibility of social criticism of the evil from a perspective of inter-subjectivity. The “society” in this article refers to a contemporary one which finds the foundation of the criticism in itself, not from the outside. It results in a dilemma that the contemporary society is the subject and the object of criticism at the same time, which is the starting point of this article. In order to resolve the dilemma of the contemporary society, scholars have been adopting different paradigms such as post-subjectivity or inter-subjectivity. In the same vein, I shall regard as a civil society the contemporary one, which is justified by the paradigm of inter-subjectivity, and accordingly find the foundation and engine of the criticism of the evil. For the purpose, I shall first examine different aspects of the evil within the paradigm of post-metaphysics, and elucidate Kant’s theory of Radical Evil to put a stop to historical fabrications of devils or evil persons. And then, I shall point out that the notion of Kant’s Radical Evil is incapable of explaining the social evilness and has a risk of falling into rigorism. I shall give an outline of Foucault’s deconstruction of the discipline dividing evil and good, and focus on the absence of social relationships in his theory. Lastly, I shall criticize social evilness from a perspective of inter subjectivity.

이 글은 상호주체성의 패러다임에서 악에 대한 사회 비판의 가 능성을 찾는다. 이 글이 지향하는 ‘악의 사회 비판’에서 사회는 정 당화의 근거를 자신의 바깥이 아니라 안에서 가져와야 하는 현대 사회를 가리킨다. 따라서 악에 대한 현대사회의 비판은 스스로가 비판의 주체이면서 동시에 대상이라는 딜레마에서 출발한다. 이런 자기 순환의 딜레마를 극복하기 위하여 탈주체성이나 상호주체성 으로의 패러다임 전환이 다양하게 시도되고 있다. 이런 흐름 속에 서 이 글은 상호주체성의 패러다임에서 정당화된 현대사회를 시민 사회로 보고, 그로부터 악에 대한 비판의 근거와 동력을 찾고자 한다. 나는 먼저 탈형이상학적 주체성의 패러다임 안에서 악의 다양한 지평을 살펴본 다음(1), 악마와 악인에 대한 날조의 역사를 멈추게 한 칸트의 근본악에 대해 해명한다(2). 그런 다음 나는 근본악 개 념이 사회적 악에 대해 무기력할 뿐만 아니라 이성 중심의 엄숙주 의에 사로잡힐 위험이 있다는 것을 지적하면서 푸코가 수행한 선⋅ 악 규율의 해체 과정을 약술한 다음 그 안에서 사회적 관계의 부재 를 지적한다(3). 마지막으로 나는 상호주체성의 패러다임에서 악의 사회비판을 수행한다(4).
