This research aims to promote understanding on the color culture of costume by analyzing the colors of women’s court costumes in the paintings of 18th Century France. The study questions are; first, to examine the overall trend of color of costume in 18th century through comparative analysis of the colors of women’s court costumes in France. Second, to examine the changes of color and compare the colors of women’s court costumes in the 18th century French paintings according to a periodic time flow. The costume style of 18th century France played a leading role in Western Europe at the time. For these reasons, the researcher examined the oil paintings of court painters, Watteau, Nattier, Boucher, Le Brun, David. The research deals only with costumes, including textiles such as shawls, but excluding accessories. The color analysis program released by Saekdong Korea is used. The result and conclusion of this study are; white Y type for main color and grey Y type for sub color is used the most, and this explains the usage of soft color at that time. Furthermore, the dispersion of color is more focused on R type and Y type than B type showing low chroma and high brightness. Overall, the results of the study and the color trends of costume in 18th century coincide.

본 연구에서는 18세기 프랑스 궁정 화가의 회화에 나타난 복식의 색채를 분석함으로써 당시 프랑스 궁정 여성복식의 색채 문화에 대해 이해하고자 하는 목적을 두고, 다음과 같이 문제를 제기하였다. 첫째, 회화를 통해 프랑스 궁정 여성복식에 나타난 색채를 분석함으로써 18세기 전체적인 색채 경향을 살펴본다. 둘째, 회화에 나타난 18세기 프랑스 궁정 여성복식의 색채를 연도별로 분석 및 비교함으로써 색채의 변화를 알아본다. 18세기 프랑스의 복식 스타일은 서유럽 내에서도 주도적이었으며, 특히 프랑스 궁정의 복식은 전반적인 복식 흐름을 파악하는 데 기준이 된다. 이에 따라 각 시기를 대표하는 궁정 화가의 초상화를 연구 대상으로 하여 와토(Watteau), 나티에(Nattier), 부셰(Boucher), 르 브룅(Le Brun), 다비드(David)의 유화를 수집하였다. 분석 대상이 되는 복식은 인체를 감싸고 있는 의복으로 규정하되 의복과 함께 인체에 걸쳐진 상태로 그려진 숄과 같은 텍스타일류는 포함시켰으며, 그 외에 머리 장식 목걸이, 부채 등의 장신구의 색채는 분석 대상에서 제외하였다. 수집한 이미지의 색상을 추출하기 위해 색동코리아의 한국표준색 색채분석 프로그램을 사용하였다. 본 연구의 결과 및 결론을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 18세기 복식의 색채분석에 따르면 흰 Y는 주조색으로, 회 Y는 보조색으로 가장 많이 사용하였으며 이는 당시 부드러운 색채를 사용하였다는 점을 설명해준다. 또한 색상의 분포가 B 계열보다는 R과 Y 계열에 집중되어 있고, 대체로 저채도․고명도에 집중된 경향을 보였다. 종합적으로 18세기 궁정 화가 다섯 명의 작품을 분석한 결과 각 화가의 회화 경향과 당시 복식에 사용된 색채 경향이 대체로 일치하는 결과를 확인할 수 있었다.
