The purpose of this study was to grasp relationship between obesity and dental caries. A research was performed by utilizing raw data of the 3rd year(2009) in the 4th term for Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, which is a survey of health and nutrition in the national unit for the Republic of Korea. The research subjects are finally 7,393 people except the subjects with missing of variables relevant to obesity and dental caries among adults aged over fully 19 years old. Data analysis was used SPSS 18.0 program. As a result of analyzing with significant level in 0.05, the following conclusions were obtained. 1. Overweight(β = -0.12, p = .02) was indicated to be low in number of DT pieces compared to normality. 2. Obesity(OR = 0.69, 95% CI: 0.57, 0.84) was indicated to be low in possibility of having DMFT compared to normality. 3. Overweight(β = -0.39, p = .02) and obesity(β = -0.70, p<.0001) was indicated to be low in number of DMFT pieces compared to normality. And to conclude, obesity(body mass index) and dental caries(DT, DMFT) were found to have negative correlation. A significant result was indicated even after adjusting confounding variables.

본 연구는 비만과 치아우식증의 관계를 파악하고자 대한민국 전국단위의 건강 및 영양조사인 국민건강영 양조사 제 4기 3차년도(2009) 원시자료를 활용하여 연구하였다. 연구대상은 만 19세 이상 성인 중 비만과 치아우식 증 관련 변수의 결측 대상자를 제외하여 최종 7,393명이다. 자료 분석은 SPSS 18.0 프로그램을 이용하였으며, 유의 수준 0.05로 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 저체중(β = 0.21, p=.03)은 정상에 비해 DT 개수가 높게 나타났고, 과체중(β = -0.12, p=.02)은 정상에 비해 DT 개수가 낮게 나타났다. 2. 비만(OR = 0.69, 95% CI: 0.57, 0.84)은 정상에 비해 DMFT를 가질 가능성이 낮게 나타났다. 3. 저체중(β = 1.14, p<.001)은 정상에 비해 DMFT 개 수가 높게 나타났고, 과체중(β = -0.39, p = .02)과 비만(β = -0.70, p<.0001)은 정상에 비해 DMFT 개수가 낮게 나 타났다. 결론적으로, 비만(체질량지수)과 치아우식증(DT, DMFT)은 음의 상관관계를 갖는 것으로 밝혀졌으며, 혼란 변수를 보정한 후에도 유사한 결과가 나타났다.
