The purpose of this research is to inquire the tasks by evaluating the implement systems, promotion programs of the “Jeju, the Island of World Peace,” which was carried forward since 2005. The results of the research are as follows. First, for the evaluation of the implement systems, the goal and the strategies of the project, and the interactions of the promotion organizations are investigated in this paper. Second, the concrete action plans, investing expense, the principal agents of the promotion are analysed for the evaluation of the 17 promotion programs. Third, the tasks of the project suggested by this paper are; conflict and controversy caused by disagreement of the promotion model, unequal distribution of the practical business for peace, the initiative by the public sphere and central government, and improving Jeju Island's image. In general, the project of the “Jeju, the Island of world peace,” is emerged as one of the leading brands of Jeju Island by carrying out the active and diverse activities for peace. In order to keep maintaining such an image effectively, pan-provincial peace movement should be propelled in the grass-root level.

본 연구의 목적은 2005년 이후 추진된 ‘제주도 세계평화의 섬’ 건설사업의 추진체계, 추진사업을 평가하 여 그 추진과제를 규명하는 데에 있다. 이런 목적에 따른 본 연구의 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 이 사업의 추진체계 평가에서 추진목적, 추진전략, 추진조직체들의 상호작용 등이 평가되었다. 둘째, 이 사업에서 추 진된 17대사업의 평가로는 구체적 사업들, 투입비용, 추진주체 등이 분석됐다. 셋째, 이 사업의 추진과제는 추진 모형 미합의로 인한 논란과 갈등, 평화실천 사업의 편중성, 공공부문과 중앙정부의 주도성, 제주 이미 지의 상승적 통합문제로 제시되었다. 결론적으로, 본 연구의 분석결과를 종합해 제주도의 ｢세계평화의 섬｣ 사업은 그동안의 활발하고 다양한 평화실천 활동들을 통해 제주를 상징하는 대표적 브랜드 중의 하나로 부 상했다고 총평가를 내렸다. 이를 지속적이고, 장기적이고, 효과적으로 유지하기 위해서는 제주도와 제주도 민들이 혼연일체가 되어 풀뿌리 수준에서 ‘주민, 학교, 산업체, 기관, 단체’의 범도민 평화운동이 추진되어야 할 것이라고 제안했다.
