On the surface of inlaid celadon of Goryeo, in-depth jade blue color and unique inlaid are carved, and aristocratic sense of beauty and buddhistic aspect of Goryeo people are well-expressed. While Buncheong grayish-blue-powdered celadon from the Joseon Dynasty and restrained sense of beauty in white porcelain represents the identity and aspect of Korea, it is feasible to start with uniqueness of the technique for inlaid celadon. The origin of inlaid technique may be found from silver inlaid and wooden inlaid in Bronze Age, but the inlaid technique on a porcelain is known to be originated from an inlaid celadon of Goryeo. Yet, if such proud tradition of porcelain is tendentious to past-oriented or past -harvested trend, not only the future of pottery but also the present may not be maintained. The reverse inlaid technique in this study is suggested to implement craftsmanship of design and technical elaboration by complying with such condition. The extremely modern method of plaster mold slip casting was selected as the technical method of this piece, and ornamental patterns and colors were expressed through the technique of reverse inlaid. The art piece through the technique of reverse inlaid has both high-tech component and high-touching sense of analogue from cast in harmonious state to balance between dense craftsmanship and digital trend. This thesis was to state the technique of how modern expression shall be evolved based on the traditional technique of inlaid celadon and to suggest the application and emergence of new tradition to promote new comprehension of surface decoration on a porcelain.

고려의 상감청자는 깊이 있는 비취빛 푸른 유색과 독창적인 상감기법이 기물의 표면에 시문되어 있으며 당시 고려인들의 귀족적인 미감과 불교적 심성을 잘 드러내고 있다. 조선시대의 분청사기나 달항아리로 대표되는 백자의 절제된 미의식이 한국의 정체성을 대변하며 한국의 정신세계를 잘 보여주고 있지만 제작법에 있어서의 독창성은 상감청자를 먼저 거론하는 것이 타당하다고 판단된다. 상감기법의 기원은 청동기의 은입사(銀入絲)와 목상감(木象嵌)에서 유래를 찾을 수 있으나 도자기에서의 상감법은 고려상감청자가 시기적으로도 이를 뿐만 아니라 그 시문법의 정교함과 높은 수준의 제작법은 현재 까지도 통용이 되고 있을 정도이다. 하지만 이러한 자랑스러운 도자전통의 유산도 전통의 울타리 속에서 과거 지향적, 과거 추수적 경향으로 경도되면 도예의 미래는 물론이거니와 지금의 현실조차 제대로 담아내고 지탱할 수 없게 된다. 본 연구에서의 역상감(逆象嵌)기법은 이러한 시대상황에 적극 부응하여 디자인적이며 공예적 치밀함의 장인정신이 구현되도록 제안한다. 작품의 기술적인 제작법은 석고틀 주입성형이라는 지극히 현대적인 방법을 택했으며 장식적인 문양과 색상은 역상감(逆象嵌)법으로 표현하였다. 역상감법에 의해 제작된 작품은 재료와 도구에서의 하이테크적인 요소와 성형 시의 하이터치적인 아날로그의 감성이 적절하게 조화를 이룸으로서 디지털의 시대성과 밀도 있는 장인 정신의 균형을 맞추고 있다. 본 논문은 전통의 청자상감기법을 바탕으로 하여 현대적 표현이 어떻게 진화되어야 하는지 기법을 중심으로 기술하여 진행하였고 새로운 전통의 출현과 그 응용법을 제시함으로서 도자 표면 장식의 새로운 이해를 도모하였다.
