This paper aims to provide the direction of JTDA’s (Jirisan Mt. Tourist Development Association) future operation and management plans to promote tourist development in the region. In order to achieve this goal, we first investigate the general and the regional condition of Mt. Jiri area in a wider perspective. Moreover, we analyze the major business contents of JTDA and finally endeavor to devise a means by which the purpose of managing the association is achieved. In summary, JTDA, founded in 2008, is an entity promoting tourism development in Mt. Jiri Area. It is the first public institution among wide tourism sectors, comprised of 7 local autonomous entities. The results of the paper highlight the following features of development plans: 1) Strengthening local contact differentiation strategy and eco-friendly contents. 2) Pursuing an integrated tourism promotion strategy and convergence with local industries. 3) Building a region associated with tourism promotion plans and an independent regional innovation system. 4) Focusing on fostering a sense of regional pride and the recreational life of the public.

본 연구는 지리산권 광역 관광개발 활성화를 위해 지리산권 관광개발조합이 어떻게 운영해야 할 것인가 방향을 제시하는데 목적이 있다. 이런 연구목적을 달성하기 위하여 광역권 관광개발에 대한 일반적인 현황과 지리산권 입지여건과 특징을 살펴 보고, 지리산권관광개발조합의 사업내용을 분석 한 다음, 지리산권 광역개발사업의 활성화를 위한 지리산권관 광개발조합의 운영 방향을 모색하였다. 지리산권관광개발조합은 광역관광권중에서 최초로 지방자치단체 7개 시군이 통합하여 2008년에 설립된 공공기 관으로서 지리산권 관광개발의 추진 주체이다. 따라서 지리산관광개발조합의 운영 방향은 첫째, 지역 밀착형 특성화 및 친환경 강화, 둘째, 통합적 관광진흥 및 지역산업과의 융복합화, 셋째, 연계형 관광개발 및 자립형 지역혁신체계 구축, 넷째, 지역의 자긍심 함양과 국민 휴양 관광화 등에 초점을 맞추어야 한다.
