This paper analyzes the memorial poems of Lee Ga Hwan, who lived during the late 18th century and thought long and hard about the social issues of his times. The study was conducted in order to verify the cultural value of his poems and to expand the interpretation of his poetic world. These memorial poems often use death as a topic through which to express one of the most profound feelings of sadness man can experience. Through such poems, our ancestors, cried out the grief of those left behind, while also making an attempt to remember the one who had passed away. However, since the middle era of the Josun Dynasty, such poems became more common place, due to the universalization of Sang-Rye(funeral rites), which turned them into more of a ritual and a cliché rather than something that conveys heartfelt sorrow. Admist these trends, Lee contributed to the establishment of such poems as a tool to commemorate the dead with sincerity. First, the subjects and structures of the poems in his collections Shimuncho and Geumdae Shimuncho are analyzed in order to identify their structural characteristics. Then, the patterns of mourning expressed in these poems are categorized into "praise for the dead" and "grief of those left behind." In parts where the imagery of mourning display's Lee’s literary abilities, the authors focus on the citations of realistic experience and descriptions that use scriptures and customary expressions in order to verify the literary value of his memorial poems.

이 글은 18세기 말 치열한 黨爭속에서 고뇌하며 살았던 錦帶 李家煥의 輓詩를 분석하여 그의 만시가 가진 문학적 가치를 확인하고 나아가 그의 시세계를 확장시 키는 일환으로 이루어진 것이다. 만시는 인간사에서 가장 슬픈 일인 죽음을 소재 로 대상을 哀悼하는 마음을 담아 지은 시이다. 우리 조상들은 만시를 통해 살아남 은 자의 슬픔을 토해내고, 망자를 오랫동안 기억하려 하였다. 그러나 조선 중기 이 후 喪禮의 보편화로 만시가 일반화되면서 점차 진심어린 애도의 마음보다는 남에 게 보여주기 위한 의례적이고 상투적 표현이 가득한 만시가 성행하였다. 금대는 이러한 세태 속에서 망자를 진심으로 애도하는 만시를 창작함으로써 기존 의 만시가 지닌 상투성에서 벗어나고자 하였다. 금대의 문집인 詩文艸과 錦帶詩 文鈔에 수록된 만시를 대상으로 먼저, 만시 창작의 대상과 형식을 구체적으로 분석 하여 형태적 특징을 파악하였다. 그리고 금대 만시에 나타난 애도의 양상을 亡者에 대한 칭양과 生者의 비탄으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 금대의 문학적 역량을 가장 잘 살펴 볼 수 있는 애도의 형상화 부분에서는 사실적 체험의 인용, 典故를 통한 묘사, 관습 적 표현의 활용 등을 통해 금대 만시가 지닌 문학적 가치를 확인하였다.
