Translation is impossible without understanding the culture. The most difficult part in translation process is that to keep the cultural equivalence, requiring much attention of translators. Especially, it is crucial in terms cross-cultural translation as it does not have cultural equivalence. Delivering the simple and correct word for readers to understand the original context is important in any kinds of translation. This also means that the cross culture is changed and adopted in the context of the translation culture. This paper will analyze on the process of how cross-cultural elements in Korea and Japan are accepted in Japanese- Korean translation. The strategies of "Domesticating Translation"& "Foreignizng Translation" are applied in this analysis, considering the readability of readers. This will be expected to contribute to improve the quality of translation, meeting the readers’ need, as well as the translation education to advance the skills of translation.

문화의 이해 없이 번역은 불가능하다. 최적의 문화적 등가성 확보는 번역 과정에서 가장 어려운 작업이자 번역가가 심혈을 기울여야 하는 대목이다. 특히 문화적 등가성이 존재하지 않는 이문화 용어 번역에서는 더욱 그러하다. 모든 번역에서 중요한 요소는 원문의 뜻을 번역문 독자가 이해하기 쉬운 올바른 말로 옮기는 일이고 이해하기 쉬운 말로 옮긴다는 것은 번역문 문화에 맞게 이문화 수용과 변용이 가장 자연스럽고도 적절하게 이루어지는 것을 의미한다. 본고에서는 문화가 다른 한․일 양국의 이문화 요소가 실제 일한 번역 과정에서 어떻게 수용되고 문화변용이 이루어지는지 그 과정을 고찰하였다. 고찰 방법으로는 이문화 용어 번역에 ‘친숙하게 하기’와 ‘낯설게 하기’ 번역 전략을 구사하고 적용해보면서 가독성을 고려해 다각도로 분석을 시도하였다. 이러한 관점에서 출발한 본고의 실증적 번역 연구 고찰 결과는 번역문 독자의 요구와 기대에 부응하는 일한 번역물의 품질 향상에 기여할 수 있을 것이며, 번역 능력 향상을 꾀하는 번역교육 현장에서 적극 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
