In their evaluating pastoral experiences, it is necessary for pastors to concern and explore their identities and inner worlds. On this basis, pastors can deal with the problems which they struggle in their fields with healthy and mature ways. In this thesis, from pastoral psychological perspective the researcher examines the life story from pastoral experiences of Arthur T. Pierson that he built up his own identity as a pastor. With the frame of time, space, and relationships which is used in narrative inquiry as a norm of qualitative analysis, he reconstructs Pierson's life experiences. Pierson's life story was a spiritual pilgrim's story in which he looked at the kingdom of God in steadfast faith and made many movements in his life journey. A special person who appeared on his life was a imago of a preacher who is one of leading pastoral functions. In Pierson's life and his personal traits, the researcher finds out some conflicts of opposites. Historical material related to Pierson's pastoral experiences give us many thought-provoking lessons, challenging us to construct healthy and mature identity formation.

자신의 목회 경험에 대한 평가 작업에서, 목회자들은 정체성과 내면세계에 대한 관 심과 탐색이 필요하다. 이를 바탕으로 목회자들은 목회 현장에 부딪히는 문제들을 보 다 건강하고 성숙한 방식으로 다루어 나갈 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 아더 피어선의 목 회 경험 속에서 목회자로서 자신의 정체성을 형성해 가는 삶의 이야기의 구성을 목회 심리학적 관점에서 살펴보려고 한다. 특히 내러티브 탐구에서 질적 분석의 준거로 사 용한 시간성, 공간성, 관계성의 틀을 갖고 아더 피어선의 삶의 경험을 재구성해본다. 피어선의 삶의 이야기는 하나님의 나라를 믿음으로 바라보며 삶의 여정에 많은 이 동이 있었던 영적 순례자의 이야기이다. 피어선의 삶에서 나타나는 특별한 인물은 목 회자의 대표적 기능 중 하나인 설교자의 이마고이다. 피어선의 삶과 그의 내면세계 성향 속에서 양면성의 갈등을 보게 된다. 피어선의 목회경험에 대한 자료들은 오늘날 한국교회 목회자들의 삶의 방식에 있어서도 많은 시사점을 남기며, 목회자의 건강하고 성숙한 정체성의 형성에 관한 큰 도전을 준다.
