A maxillofacial fixation plate and a maxillofacial fixation screw are medical devices used for treatment of maxillofacial fracture or damage which may occur due to a traffic accident or an industrial disaster. More recently, growing outdoor or sports activities have increased the demand for these devices. An orthodontic anchor system is fixed to the jawbone or periodontal tissues and connected with an orthodontic appliance, widely used for treating a bimaxillary protrusion or as an orthodontic treatment due to relatively simple treatment and low costs. This study aims to provide a draft guideline on test methods applicable to performance evaluation of maxillofacial fixation plate, maxillofacial fixation screw, and orthodontic anchor system for approval and quality management. In order to ensure their safety and effectiveness, we established test requirements and methods, including a bending test, for evaluating physico-mechanical performance of the devices by collecting and reviewing domestic and international standards and data as well as analyzing the approval status of the medical devices in Korea. And based on the research, a draft guideline which harmonizes with international standards has been developed. The draft guideline is expected to guarantee the consistency of review and evaluation works and will help draw up a technical documentation of the medical devices.

악안면성형용판 및 악안면성형용나사는 주로 교통사고, 산업재해 등에 의해 발생하는 구강 악안면 골절 또는 파손 시 골절부위를 고정하기 위해 사용되는 의료기기로, 최근에는 야외활동과 스포츠의 대중화로 인해 그 사용 범 위가 넓어지고 있다. 치과교정용고정장치는 턱뼈나 치주조직에 고정되어 교정장치를 연결하여 교정치료의 고정점으 로 사용되는 의료기기로, 시술방법이 간단하고 비용이 적게 들어 최근 돌출입 교정 등 치과 교정 시 보편적으로 사 용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 악안면성형용판, 악안면성형용나사 및 치과교정용고정장치의 허가심사 및 품질관리 등을 위한 성능 평가에 활용 가능한 시험방법 가이드라인을 마련하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 국내에 허가된 해당 품목의 허 가 현황과 국내·외 규격 및 국제 자료를 수집 및 비교 검토하여 해당 품목의 물리·기계적 성능 평가를 위한 시험항목 및 시험방법을 확립하였고, 이를 토대로 국제규격에 부합하는 가이드라인을 개발하였다. 마련된 가이드라인은 해당 품 목 의료기기의 기술문서 작성에 도움이 될 것이고, 허가를 위한 심사·평가의 일관성을 확보할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
