This study focuses on the special features or merits of the ancient Baduk classic, “Hyun-hyun Ki-kyung,” comparing to other books on Baduk. The main findings are as follows: First, this literature is an encyclopediac book dealing with various domains of Baduk. Second, it illustrates the techniques of Baduk with linguistic explanation. Third, it contains exquisite moves regarding life and death of stones. Fourth, it provides each shape of Baduk with a particular name. Fifth, it passes down the record of real games to posterity. Such features reveal that this literature is a precious book beyond the book on simply life and death for making progress in Baduk. The Baduk philosophy included in this, for example, delivers interesting ideas about the essence and values of Baduk that draws people’s interest in modern times. It also helps to grasp what the players at that time used as a theory. A joint study by China, Japan and Korea is thought to enable to discover important historic and artistic worth, and furture helps lead to a fruitful Baduk culture.

이 연구에서는 바둑 고전 『현현기경』이 갖고 있는 특장(特長), 즉 특별한 점이나 장점을 조명해 보았다. 『현현기경』의 특별한 점은 여러 가지를 들 수 있을 것이나, 여기서는 주로 다 른 바둑서와 비교하여 특별한 점을 찾아보았다. 그것은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 『현현기경』은 바둑 총서(叢書)이다. 둘째, 언어적 서술(敍述)로 바둑의 기술을 설명한다. 셋째, 오묘한 사활묘수들이 많다. 넷째, 바둑 형태에 저마다 이름이 붙어 있다. 다섯째, 실전 기보를 담아 후세에 전승해 주고 있다. 이러한 특장점은 『현현기경』이 기력 향상을 위한 사활묘수풀이집 용도 이상의 가치를 담 은 귀중한 문헌임을 보여주고 있다. 예컨대, 이 책에 담긴 바둑에 관한 철학은 오늘날에도 세인 들의 관심을 끌고 있는 바둑의 본질과 가치에 관한 흥미로운 주장을 전달해 주고 있다. 또한 고대의 바둑이론을 담은 귀중한 내용도 포함되어 있어 옛날의 바둑이론이 어떠했는가를 연구하 는 데 도움이 된다. 『현현기경』은 고대 중국에서 출간된 고서이지만 중국과 일본, 한국에서 공동으로 관심을 갖고 연구해 본다면 고대와 현대를 잇는 중요한 역사적, 예술적 가치를 찾아낼 수 있고, 바둑문 화를 보다 풍성하게 만드는 데 도움이 될 것으로 생각된다.
