The purpose of the research is to find whether the managerial ownership affect investment efficiency or not. According to prior studies, managerial ownership increase earnings management and implied cost of capital in Korean capital market. To expand those studies, we set hypothesis that managers’ who have large ownership induce overinvestment for their Empire Building. In order to research we extract data from KIS-VALUE which is the database offered by NICE Information Service, Korea Financial Supervisory Service electronic disclosure System, DART and Data Guide 5 from FnGuide inc. between 2002 and 2013. To measure overinvestment, we use as same as Mcnichols and Stubben(2008). The research results that there is a positive relation between managers ownership and overinvestment. It can be surmised that managers who have higher ownership could increase inefficiency of investment due to managers private interest. This results are similar to related studies’ results of Korean market.

본 연구는 경영자의 지분율이 증가할수록 기업의 과잉투자성향이 증가하는 지에 대해 살펴보고자 Mcnichols and Stubben(2008)에서 제시하는 과잉투자성향 측정방법을 이용하여 경영자 지분율에 따른 투자성향을 살펴보았다. 2002년부터 2013년까지 유가증권 시장 기업을 대상으로 실증 분석한 결과, 임원 소유지분율과 최대주주 지분율로 측정한 경영자지분율이 증가할수록 투자효율성과 양(+)의 관련성을 나타내었다. 보다 강건한 분석을 위하여 종속변수를 소수순위등급으로 측정한 경우에도 동일한 결과를 얻을 수 있었으며 시차변수를 이용한 결과에서는 종속변수가 연속변수일 때 임원지분율의 경우를 제외하고는 마찬가지의 유의한 결과를 도출할 수 있었다. 이는 경영자 지분율이 높아질수록 기업의 과잉투자성향이 증가하여 경영자의 사적이익추구 현상이 심화될 수 있음을 유추할 수 있으며 이러한 결과는 국내 자본시장을 대상으로 한 경영자 지분율의 행태와 유사함을 확인할 수 있었다.
