The objective of this research is to study mediating role of innovation capability between competitive business environment and technical performance. Through an literature review, the study identifies government support system, industrial competition intensity, company size, R&D size as competitive business environment, and we also identifies R&D learning strategic planning · manufacturing marketing organizing resource capability as innovation capabilities. These are separated 2 factor such as innovation support capability(R&D· learning capability), innovation functional capability. Technical performance also was identified as technical excellence, market growth, business profitability. As a result of regression analysis to the responses gathered from 125 firms, the competitive business environments influence directly to the innovation capabilities(innovation support capability, innovation functional capability). Technical performance are also influenced positively by innovation capabilities. Most of all, mediating role of innovation capabilities are revealed between competitive business environments and technical performance. But this mediating roles of innovation capabilities are not only simple but also double mediation.

본 연구는 국내 중소기업의 기술혁신활동에 영향을 미치는 조직내·외의 역량과 환경요인에 관한 것으로, 어떠한 환경적 요인과 역량을 보유한 기업들이 기술경영활동을 활발히 이행하고, 이러한 이행의 결과 기술성과를 얼마나 달성하는 가를 밝혀내고자 한다. 이를 위해 기술혁신의 유인요소와 기술경영성과, 그리고 이에 영향을 미칠 것으로 판단되는 기업의 혁신역량을 매개요인으로 분석하였다. 또한 기술혁신의 복합적 특성을 반영할 수 있도록 기술혁신역량을 기술기반역량과 기술실행역량으로 이원화하여 분석하였다. 연구결과 정부지원과 기업규모, R&D규모는 기술성과에 직접 영향을 미치지는 않지만 기술혁신역량의 매개역할을 통해 기술성과에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 연구결과를 통해 기업으로 하여금 기술경영에 대한 이해증진과 환경변화에 따른 기술혁신의 신속한 변화를 추구할 수 있으며, 또한 연구 변수들 중 의미가 높은 요소를 정부지원평가항목에 적용한다면 효과적인 지원정책을 수립하는데 유용한 도움이 될 것이다.
