This is a study of “Ilwongjipyo” compiled edited by Hareou Hwang Duckgil who was one of the best book compiler and writer in the late Chosun Dynasty. As a typical Confucian scholar Hwang Duckgil was interested in compiling and publishing of books. He edited “Ilwongjipyo” and the idea of this was from the “Hahockjinam” for academic learners compiled by his teacher, Ahn JungBock. “Ilwongjipyo” is an educational textbook for academic learners. It was selected and edited with certain standards of etiquettes, manners and learning attitudes that people have to follow in daily life commented by former scholars. With “Ilwongjipyo” “Chohockgago” is also a representative educational textbook edited by Hwang Duckgil. “Ilwongjipyo” was earlier compiled than “Chohockgago”. The reason for this seems because there was the need for a book for academic starters. “Ilwongjipyo” was focused on standards of behaviour in our life while “Chohockgago” put more emphasis on ethics and morality. “Ilwongjipyo” is a compilation of all of Hwang Duckgil’s philosophy and studies. It is also enough to confirm that he was the best compiler.

이 연구는 조선 후기의 중요한 도서편찬자 및 저술가인 下廬 黃德吉의 『日用輯要』에 관한 연구이다. 황덕길은 도서의 편찬과 간행에도 깊은 관심을 보였는데, 스승인 안정복이 초학자들을 가르치기 위하여 정리한 『下學指南』의 영향을 받아 『日用輯要』를 편찬했다. 『日用輯要』는 儒 學을 처음 배우는 童蒙들을 대상으로 일상생활에서 반드시 알고 지켜 야할 여러 예절과 마음가짐, 학문을 대하는 자세 등에 대해 이전의 학자들이 언급한 내용 을 일정한 기준에 의하여 선별․편집하여 완성한 교육 교재이다. 『日用輯要』와 『初學可考』는 황덕길이 편찬․저 술한, 초학자들을 대상으로 하는 교육 교재의 대표적인 책이다. 『初學可考』보다 『日用輯要』가 먼저 편찬되었는데, 『日用輯要』 의 편찬을 마치고 나서 더욱 기초적인 초학자 교육 교재를 편집․저술해야 할 필요성을 느꼈으므로 『初學可考』를 편찬했을 것이다. 『日用輯要』가 유학자로서 올바른 마음을 유 지하고 일상에서의 행동규범을 제시하는 내용으로 되어 있는 반면, 『初學可考』는 한 시대 를 살아가는 한 인간으로서 반드시 알아야 할 내용을 정리한 것이다. 황덕길의 『日用輯要』는 그의 사상과 학문의 정수가 담긴 결정체라고 할 수 있다. 그리고 엄밀하고 적극적인 도사편찬자로서의 황덕길의 면모를 다시 한 번 확인할 수 있는 도서이다.
