This manuscript began from questions about phenomenon that asmetropolitan civilization progresses, wild nature of cats has become morepopular though cats are not domesticated. 본고는 고양이의 야성을 현대 대도시의 정치력의 공백을 메우는 비공식적 감정장치로 본다. 현대의 정치술은 모든 면에서 공식적인 제도를 완벽하게 구축하기보다 사적인 요소를 활용하여 정치력의 공백을 은폐하는 공 적 폭력의 사적 이전에서 성패가 좌우된다. 이에 본고는영화 5편, 소설 5편을 통해서 고양이가 대도시가 문제 를 확장한 후 다른 형태로 치환해 버린폭력적 상태라는 사실을 고찰하고자 한다. 첫째, 작품 속에서 고양이는 대도시의 공적 폭력이 사적으로 이전되는 비공식적인 감정 장치다. 이때 고양이 는 실체가 아닌 대도시에 관련된 환란의 기호이며, 파국의 공포를 도취적으로 감상하는 기호로 작용한다. 이 과정에서 공포에 휩싸인 개인들은 무기력하고 비합리적인대중으로 합치된다. 하지만 고양이에 의해 매개되는 대중적 일체감은 진지성이 결여된 파괴적쾌락의 부산물일 뿐이다. 둘째, 고양이에게 이전되는 폭력은 학대와 환대라는 극단적 이분법으로 구체화한다. 고양이를 범죄의 이미지 로 낙인 찍고 이를 징벌적 쾌락의 근거로 삼는 것이 학대의 오락이라면,고양이를 인간의 감성에 맞게 고양이 의 특성을 편집하는 친밀감은 환대의 오락이다. 외견상달라 보이는 두 가지 태도는 대도시의 살상의 본능을 고양이를 통해서 해소하는 오락적 폭력이라는 점에서 같다. 셋째, 이에 대한 대안으로 본고는 고양이 문제를 도시형동물이라는 범주로 확대하여 논의하고자 한다. 1인가 구의 증가, 저출산과 고령화현상이 가속화하면서 이제 대도시에서 동물은법의 외부에서 내부로 이동하고 있 다. 이제 고양이는 단순히 인간의 정서를 보조해주는 비공식적 역할에서 독자적이고 공식적인 제도의 영역으 로 진입하고 있다. 도시형동물에 따르면 인간은 스스로 충족된 내부적 존재가 아니라, 도시 속 동물과의 관계 에 의해 결정되는 외부적 존재다. 그런 점에서 대도시는 인간과 동물의 경계를 나눌 수 없는 회색지대이며 반 휴머니즘의 공동체이다. 인간과 동물에게 선험적으로 주어진 정체성은 없으며, 대도시는 동물과의 관계에서 정체성이 형성되는 끊임없는 변화의 과정이 공간이다.
