W. B. Yeats was born at Sandymount, Dublin on 13 June 1865 and died at Cap Martin, southern France on 28 January 1939. For some reason, he told his kin to carry and bury his body near his mother’s hometown, Sligo, about one year after his death. He was buried temporarily at Roquebrune, France, but the second world war and other reasons made it difficult to follow his will. On 17 September, 1948 his body was to be carried and buried at the right place he wanted. We can guess why he had wanted to be buried at Sligo: first, he may have wanted to go back and take an eternal sleep in Sligo, as he must have considered it his hometown, as most long for their hometown when they die; secondly, what is more important to me is that Yeats chose Ben Bulben as the place was connected with Ireland’s myths and legends, as the poet in the poem says “Here’s the gist of what they mean.”
