This is a study on religious features and describing techniques in Geum-o-sin-hwa. Also, it is a kind of work to figure out the characteristics of writing in the genre of Asian fiction(Romance). The describing techniques of Asian fiction are based on religion. Circumstances were looked over to confirm the fact Geum-o-sin-hwa is based on religion. Geum-o-sin- hwa was ready to be written based on religion when we regard the strangeness and mystery, the undifferentiation of life and religion, and Kim Siseup's thought on religion. Characters, describing criteria, describing device and describing intention give clues of the reason why Geum-o-sin-hwa was written based on religion. The characters are men, ghost and god. The describing criteria is extended to the other world of after death, and the describing device sets up two worlds and keep them in order, and describing intention is a little out of reality with the strangeness and mystery based on religion.

본고는 『금오신화』에 나타난 종교성과 서술기법에 대한 논의이다. 이는 傳奇小說이라는 장르에서 나타나는 글쓰기의 특성을 밝히는 작업이다. 한마디로 말해 전기소설의 서술기법이 종교성을 바탕으로 했다는 것이다. 『금오신화』가 종교성을 바탕으로 서술됐다는 것을 밝히기 위해 주변상황을 먼저 살폈다. 전기소설의 奇異 와 神異, 당대의 일상과 종교에 대한 未分化, 김시습의 종교에 대한 思惟를 볼 때 이미 김시습은 종교성을 바탕 으로 글을 쓸 준비가 되어 있었다. 종교성을 바탕으로 『금오신화』가 서술된 상황은 작중인물, 서술범주, 서술장치, 서술의도 등에서 알 수 있 었다. 작중인물은 인간과 鬼와 神이 교류를 갖고, 서술범주는 죽음이후까지 이어지며, 서술장치는 幻實을 기 본으로 인연, 운명 등의 종교성 단어와 종교적 질서를 유지하고 있으며, 서술의도는 종교성에 의탁하여 기이 와 신이 등으로 일상의 저촉에서 벗어나 작가가 하고 싶은 말을 하며 현실계 외에 다른 세계가 있음을 알리고 자 한데 있었다.
