This study was designed to look into the Confucian culture in Zhèjiāng, China by adopting the research method of cultural geography. Its temporal scope was from the Song Dynasty after the 11th century to the Ming-Qing Dynasty, and discussion was focused on the Imperial Examination during the Ming-Qing Dynasty in particular. And its spatial scope was the Jiang Nan area, south of Cháng Jiāng (Yangtze River), and the focus was on thoughts and cultures (in particular, Confucian culture) in Zhèjiāng. The perspective of cultural geography refers to geographical understanding of regional distributions or characteristics of ideologies and cultures. Thus, this study looked into the state of publication culture in Zhèjiāng exploring its history and cultural geography as well as its natural geography to examine its geographical characteristics, thoughts and cultures, including the Jiang Nan area in the first section. The second section of this study chose the Zhe Dong area in the entire Zhèjiāng area of Jiang Nan as its spatial scope and analyzed its academic culture on the dimension of Confucian culture. This section discussed the points of Zhang Xue-cheng on the state, origin, features and significance of academic culture in the Zhe Dong area. In addition, it discussed the distribution of Jinshi and Confucian intellectuals in the Zhe Dong area. Especially, Shao Xing in the Zhe Dong area was exemplified, and it was noted that in terms of academic success, it took a leading position in all parts of the country.

이 논문은 문화지리학적 연구방법을 채택하여 중국 절강의 유교문화를 고찰해 보고자 기획한 것이다. 통시적 대상으로는 11세기 이후 중국 송대부터 명청대까지, 그 가운데 명청대의 과거제를 중심으로 논의하였다. 또 공간적 대상으로는 長江(양자강) 이남의 강남 지역이며, 그 가운데 절강의 사상문화(특히 유교문화)에 초점을 맞추었다. 문화지리학적 관점이란 사상문화의 지역적 분포나 특성을 지리적 관점에서 파악한다는 의미이다. 따라서 이 논고는 첫 번째 절에서 절강의 자연지리는 물론이고 역사․문화지리를 탐구하면서 강남의 출판문화 현황을 검토하였다. 이 논고의 두 번째 절에서는 강남의 절강 제 지역 가운데 절동 지역을 공간적 범위로 설정하고, 절동의 학술문화를 유교문화적 차원에서 분석하였다. 여기에서는 청대 章學誠의 저작 『文史通義』내편의 ｢절동학술｣이라는 문장을 주요한 논거자료로 채택했는데, 절동 지역의 학술문화 실상과 그 연원 및 학술적 특징과 의의 등등에 관한 장학성의 논지를 고찰하고, 절동 지역의 진사 분포와 유교 지식인에 관해서도 살펴보았다.
