In this study, I think about the future prospects for classical Korean literature, while clarifying the history and current state of the translation, research, authorship, and theory of these classic works in Japan. A brief outline follows:１) There are 17 confirmed full-time university employees studying South Korea’s classical literature in Japan, and 23 persons altogether, including part-time and honorary professors. Compared with a survey taken eight years ago, this is an increase of 10 people. The translation of classical Korean literature in Japan began 130 years ago in 1886 with the 春香傳, or “chunhyangjeon," while the introduction of monographs and other materials started from the front of the 90 years since. ２) A group dedicated to studying classical Korean literature, the Japan and Korea Comparative Literature Study Group, was launched only recently in April 2010, but regularly translates and discusses literature for their yearly publication, Japan and Korea Comparative Literature Research, which has released its fourth issue this year. ３) The study of classical Korean literature in Japan can provide readers’with a fresh literary impression, given that the literature and ethnicities of the two countries are different, while their economic and social structures are similar. I suspect the popularity of Korean literature in Japan will increase in the future. Additionally, now that subjects such as classical Korean literature are compulsory for a Korean teacher's license acquired at Japanese universities, there are more opportunities for college students to come into contact with Korean literary classics.

본 조사에서는 日本에 있어서의 한국･조선 고전문학에 관한 연구현황과 주된 연구논저, 그리고 고전작품 번역의 역사를 밝히면서 장래의 전망에 대해 생각해 보았다. 간략하면 다음과 같다. 1) 日本에서의 한국 고전문학 연구자는 17개 대학의 전임 17명과 명예교수와 비상근 등을 포함하면 모두 23명 정도가 확인되었다. 8년 전의 조사와 비교하면 10여명이 증가된 것이다. 그리고 日本에서의 한국 고전문학의 번역은, 춘향전의 번역을 필두로 하여 130여년간의 역사가 있으며, 연구서와 자료 소개는 90여년 전부터 시작되었던 것도 확인되었다. 2) 고전문학 연구회로서는 2010년 4월에 발족한 <일한비교문학연구회>가 유일한데, 매년 논술과 번역물을 엮어 현재 󰡔日韓比較文學硏究󰡕 4호를 발행하고 있다. 3) 日本에 있어서의 한국 고전문학은 나라와 민족이 다른 문학이기에 독자로 하여금 더욱 신선한 감동을 줄 수 있는데, 특히 두 나라는 거의 비슷한 사회구조와 경제구조를 갖고 있기 때문에, 한국문학의 수용은 더욱 증가될 것이라고 본다. 그 위에 日本의 대학에 있어서 한국 문학강론 등의 과목은 고등학교 한국어 교원 면허 취득을 위한 필수과목이란 제도상의 뒷받침도 있기 때문에, 日本인의 한국문학과의 접촉은 더욱 늘어날 것이다.
