In spite of a short history, Korean Protestant Church has grown up enough to host WCC Assembly. However, a number of undesirable problems were exposed during the Assembly as well as in the preparation thereof. By reflecting on the shameful experiences, Korean Church should overcome the past mistakes. The 10th WCC Assembly, which was held in Busan under the theme, "God of Life, Lead Us to Justice and Peace", brought up many challenges to Korean ecumenical movements. The first challenge is about mutual understanding among ecumenical, evangelical, and pentecostal groups in Christian churches. Second, it challenged how important the spiritual dimension is through the worship service, bible study and prayer meeting. Third challenge is about the need to reexamine the meaning of church and the importance of the unity and collaboration among diverse church groups. Fourth, it challenged us in regard to the importance of ecumenical education and fostering leaders for next generation of the ecumenical movement. Fifth, it challenged us in regard to the importance of collaboration and solidarity with the World Church for the peace inside Korean peninsula and in the North -East Asia. Now, Korean Church need to see these challenges as an opportunity for growing to maturity, and set new tasks for the future of the ecumenical movements. Korean Ecumenical movement has to look into the results of WCC Busan Assembly, and come up with practical measures to apply them to the concrete situations in Korean church. Joint advisory committee of Korean ecumenical and evangelical groups should be formed and take steps to find out in which part they agree and disagree. KETI(Korean Ecumenical Theological Institute) of WCC Busan Assembly should not be considered as an onetime program, but should be developed as a regular program. There should be support for opportunity and development of ecumenical movement in local churches. Global Institute of Theology like Bossey Ecumenical Institute, should be organized by Korean churches to raise church leaders in the Third World and to support the churches of the Third World. By holding regular event such as 'Korean Church's Days', Korean Church should create a forum where reflections on the nature of Korean Church, education of lay people, and suggestions of social agenda can be made on a regular basis. WCC Busan Assembly is not yet over, but it has now begun. Now Korean Church should reply specifically to the invitation of pilgrimage toward it’s justice and peace.

한국(개신)교회의 역사는 세계교회의 역사에 비하면 매우 일천하지만 WCC 총회를 유치할 만큼 성장했다. 한국교회는 세계교회의 기대와 달리 총회를 준비하는 과정과 총회 기간에 적지 않은 부끄러움을 연출했다. 한국교회는 그 부끄러움을 돌아봄으로써 다시는 반복하지 말아야 한다. “생명의 하나님, 우리를 정의와 평화로 이끄소서!”라는 주제로 개최된WCC 제10차 부산총회는 한국교회 에큐메니칼 운동을 향해서 많은 것을 도전했다. 첫째로 에큐메니칼, 에반젤리칼, 펜타코스탈 등 기독교 내 각 그룹 간의 상호이해를 위해 노력할 것을 도전했다. 둘째로 예배와 성경공부와 기도회 등을 통해 영성적 차원이 얼마나 중요한가를 도전했다. 셋째로 교회가 무엇인지, 공교회적인 연합과 일치가 왜 중요한지를 점검하도록 도전했다. 넷째로 에큐메니칼 교육이 중요하다는 것과 에큐메니칼 운동을 위한 차세대 지도자의 양성이 중요하다는 것을 도전했다. 다섯째로 한반도 평화와 동북아 평화를 위해 세계교회의 협력과 연대를 이끄는 것이 중요함을 도전했다. 이제 한국교회는 이러한 도전들을 한국교회의 질적 성숙을 위한 기회로 보고 에큐메니칼 운동의 차원에서 새로운 과제를 설정해야 한다. 한국교회 에큐메니칼 운동은 부산총회의 결과물들을 하나하나 상세히 살펴보고, 한국교회의 상황에 실제로 적용할 수 있는 방안을 강구해야 한다. 한국의 에큐메니칼 그룹과 에반젤리칼 그룹 간에 공동자문단을 구성하고, 무엇이 어떤 점에서 일치하고 무엇이 어떤 점에서 다른지를 규명하는 과정을 만들어야 한다. WCC 부산총회의 KETI 과정을 일회적인 과정으로 끝내지 말고 상설화해서 운영해야 한다. 지역교회들의 에큐메니칼 운동을 위한 기회와 영역을 개발하고 지원해야 한다. 보세이 에큐메니칼 신학원과 같은 세계신학원을 교계 차원에서 설립하여 제3세계 교회 지도자를 양성하고 제3세계 교회를 지원하는 일에 기여해야 한다. ‘한국교회의 날’ 행사를 정기적으로 개최함으로써 한국교회 자신을 성찰하고, 평신도들을 전방위적으로 교육하며, 대사회적인 아젠다를 제시하는 상설적인 장(場)을 마련해야 한다. 또한 한국교회로 하여금 정의와 평화에 기초한 한반도의 통일을 향해서 순례할 것을 도전해야 한다. WCC 부산총회는 끝난 것이 아니라 이제 시작이다. 한국교회는 정의와 평화를 향한 총회의 순례초청에 구체적으로 응답해야 한다.
