The aim of this thesis is to suggest the contour of the lifegiving mission of the World Council of Churches(WCC) and tasks of the life-giving mission of the Korean church. WCC, however, dose not use the word, 'life-giving mission.' So, first of all, we will deal with discussions of WCC on the theme of the creation, the Integrity of Creation and the climate change. Secondly, we will deal with themes of the climate change, the economic justice and the just peace through exploring related documents approved by the Central Committee of WCC in 2012, presentations suggested in the Plenary of the 10th Assembly and related affirmations and challenges identified in the Ecumenical Conversations of the 10th Assembly in 2013. WCC has made some presentations in the Conference of Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change during the last twenty years. The main points of WCC on the theme of the climate change are: to urge nations involved to include the eco-justice in the discussions of the climate change for the climate change is the matter of ethics and spirituality; to call for Christians to change in the way of life and thinking; to sustain the system of the Kyoto Protocol and the post-Kyoto Protocol. In relation to the economic justice, as WCC identifies the root of the ecological crisis, economic crisis and social crisis as the human greed, WCC urges Christians to repentance from the greed, selfishness and anthropocentrism, calls for the transformative spirituality and the international financial reforms. WCC suggests the just peace alternative to the 'just war' and 'pacifism'. Though the just peace is based upon the concept of shalom of the Old Testament, the just peace doesn't mention about its positive contents. Also there is a limitation in the rule of the law in the current international law system. Tasks of the life-giving mission of WCC are: to wrestle with the civilizational crisis and the theme of the empire; to identify the syncretic Christianity with the capitalism and the interrelations among life, justice and peace. Tasks of the life-giving mission of the Korean church are: to suggest the theological orientation for healing, reconciliation and life-giving mission; to publish the Bible study book on the theme of healing, reconciliation and life-giving mission; to introduce examples of healing, reconciliation and life- giving mission to churches; to apply the life-giving mission to the Christian education, theological education and pastors continuing education.

이 글의 목적은 생태계 위기, 경제 위기, 사회적/국가적/전지구적 위기등 지구생명공동체의 위기에 대응하는 WCC의 생명선교를 소개하고 한국교회 생명선교의 과제를 제시하는 것이다. 그런데 WCC는 “생명선교”라는 단어를 사용하지 않는다. 그래서 WCC가 1970년대에 다룬 창조세계,1980년대에 다룬 창조보전, 1992년부터 시작한 기후변화에 대하여 유엔기후변화협약 당사국 총회에 참석한 활동과 논의를 소개한다. 특히 기후변화 와 관련한 WCC의 5개 주요 성명서의 내용을 제시한다. 그리고 WCC부산총회가 다룬 기후변화, 경제정의, 정 의로운 평화 등 핵심주제에 대해서 총회 전체회의와 주요문서들, 에큐메니칼 대화에서 다뤄진 내용을 중심으 로 소개한다. WCC는 기후변화가 윤리적, 영적 문제로서 생태정의를 세워야 함을국제사회에 역설했고, 기독교인의 삶의 방 식과 사고방식의 철저한 회개가필요하며 기존 경제구조의 변화와 교토 의정서 체제의 붕괴를 막고 이후의 대 안을 만들기 위해 노력하고 있다. 경제정의와 관련해서 WCC는 경제위기, 생태 위기, 사회 위기 등 복합적 위 기의 뿌리에 인간의 탐욕이 있음을 고백하고 탐욕, 이기주의, 인간중심주의의 죄로부터 회개를 촉구하며,자선 의 신학 대신에 정의의 신학을 세워야 하고 자신을 변화시키는 변혁적영성을 필요로 하며, 국제금융기구를 개 혁하도록 해야 한다. WCC는 정의로운 전쟁과 평화주의의 대안으로 정의로운 평화를 제시했다. 비록 정의로 운 평화가 성서의 샬롬에 근거하고 있지만 적극적 내용이 결여되었고, 실제 갈등하는 국제사회에서 ‘법치’의 한계를 지적했고 강자보다는 약자에게비폭력을 강조하는 것은 문제로 지적되었다. WCC 생명선교의 의의는 창조세계, 창조보전, 기후변화 등 논의와 활동에 발전이 있었으며 신학적 입장을 정 리했다는 데 있다. 그렇지만 WCC가 생명선교라는 단어를 사용하지 않는 것처럼 생명신학과 생명선교에 대한 통합적 접근과 이해가 부족하고, 부산총회는 후쿠시마 핵발전소 폭발참사 이후에 인근 지역에서 모인 총회에 도 불구하고 핵발전소에 대한 입장정리를 하지 못했고, 창조보전과 기후변화에 대한 WCC의 활동과 신학이 회원교회에 충분히 전달되지 못하고 활동으로 연계되지 못한 것이 한계다. WCC 생명선교의 과제로는 복합적 위기의 근원에 있는 문명사적 위기와 제국의 문제를 다뤄야 하고, 하나님 과 맘몬을 동시에 섬기려는 혼합주의화된 기독교를 신학적으로 규명하는 작업이 필요하며, 이로부터의 철저 한 신학적 회개와 더불어 생명, 정의, 평화의 개념을 정리하고 통합하는 신학적 작업이 요구된다. WCC의 생명선교의 흐름에서 한국교회의 생명선교의 과제를 예장통합에 국한해 살펴보았다. 이는 통합이 “생 명살리기운동 10년”(2002-2012)을 전개했고, 현재는 “치유와 화해의 생명공동체운동 10년”(2012-2022)을 전 개하고 있기 때문이다. “치유와 화해의 생명공동체운동 10년”(2012-2022)의 과제로는 치유, 화해, 생명선교의 신학적 방향을 제시하고 생명선교에 적절한 성서연구 교재를 발간하고, 치유와 화해와 생명선교가 필요한 현 장과 대안적 현장을 소개하며 신학화하며, 생명선교를 신학교육과 교회교육과 목회자 재교육과 연계하고, 노 회가 생명선교를 전개할 수 있도록신학교와 연계하는 것이 필요하다.
