This thesis focuses on the value of my non-narrative film “Selfportrait-Crow”. This study is about the meanings of making videos without a story and the examinations of their formative values. A video without a story is called "video art" or "experimental film". Instead of telling a story, such a video pursues pure expression of “cinematic techniques”. Therefore, the important concept in this study is “experimental spirit of abstract video art through cinematic techniques and phenomena” in a video without a story. I want to introduce and analyze some video works without a story or a plot, where expressions can be a bare form of cinematic techniques. Pointing out theoretical basis, I would like to promote development of experimental films. In addition, this paper will be one of the steps of defining the “Image phenomenon” theory that is based on the “phenomena” of expressions only by “images”.

본 논문은 스토리가 없는 영상작품인 ‘자화상-까마귀’의 제작 가치를 중심으로 하였다. 본 연구는 스토리가 없는 영상의 제작의의와 조형적 가치의 고찰이라고 할 수 있다. 스토리가 없는 영상은 대개 아트영상, 실험영상이라고 불리고 있다. 스토리를 배제하는 대신 영상이 추구하는 것은 ‘기법’으로서의 표현이라고 해석할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구의 중요 개념은 스토리가 없는 영상에 있어서의 ‘기법과 현상을 매개로 한 추상적 비디오 아트의 실험정신’에 있다. 본문에서는 스토리나 플롯이 전혀 없는 영상 중, 기법=표현이라고 할 수 있는 몇 작품을 분석, 소개하고 이론적 근거를 제시하여 실험 영상의 발전을 도모하고자 한다. 또한 본 논문은 영상을 ‘이미지’만으로 표현할 수 있는 ‘현상’에 대하여 착목한 ‘이미지 페노메논’ 이론을 정의하는 한 단계가 될 것이다.
