Estimation of PMI (Postmortem Interval) of human cadavers based on fly maggots is very rare in the police investigation in Korea. The aims of this study are to identify maggots collected at 8 human cadaversto the species level through the rearing of them, to estimate PMIs of the cadavers based on ADH (accumulateddegree hours), basement temperature and eclosion time of the insects, and to discuss the cause of differencesbetween the PMIs estimated by this study and by the police. As the results, 4 species (Calliphora vicina,Chrysomya megacephala, Ch. pinguis and Lucilia sericata) were identified, and the PMIs of the cadavers wereestimated –2~18 days. Among the PMIs, one PMI (in the case 8) was identical with that by the police, suggestinginvestigational accuracy, whereas there were differences of 3-21 days of the PMIs with those by the policein the 7 cadavers. Conclusively, it was suggested that ecological studies on the domestic insects such as onthe basement temperature and eclosion time, are necessary for more accurate estimation of PMI. Further, itwas recommended that the researcher attends to the scene to collect exact environmental information.

국내에서는 변사 사건 발생 시 시체에서 발견되는 구더기를 이용하여 PMI를 추정하는 경우가매우 드문 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 8건의 변사 사건에서 수집된 구더기를 성충으로 사육하여 동정하고,각 종의 ADH, 기저온도 및 성장시간을 이용하여 시체의 PMI를 추정하였다. 또한 경찰에서 추정한 PMI와 비교하여 PMI 값 차이의 원인에 대해서 고찰하였다. 채집된 구더기를 사육한 결과 붉은뺨금파리(Calliphora vicina), 검정뺨금파리(Chrysomya megacephala), 큰검정뺨금파리(Chrysomya pinguis) 및 구리금파리(Lucilia sericata)로 동정되었고, 8구의 PMI는 –2 ~ 18일로 추정되었다. 이 중 사건 8의 PMI는 경찰의 수사에 의한 PMI와 일치하여 경찰추정에 의한 PMI의 정확성이 뒷받침되었다. 한편, 나머지 7건의경우 3 ~ 21일의 차이를 보였는데, 보다 정확한 PMI의 산출을 위해서는 ADH 산출에 필요한 국내산 곤충에 대한 자료(기저온도, 성장시간 등)가 필요하며, 사건현장의 정보(온도 등)가 직접 수집되어야 할 것으로 생각되었다.
