The purpose of this study was to examine relationships among exercise participation level/cognition, physical and mental health of elders in the grandparents-grandchildren families that were increasing rapidly in our society. Grandparents raising grandchildren have many difficulties of not only health problems caused by aging but also burdens of raising grandchildren. Data were collected by employing a survey including level/cognition of exercise participation, physical and metal health, and activities of daily living from 109 older adults who were raising grandchildren belong to social welfare centers and community children care centers and 245 survey data were collected from general seniors to compare with grandparents raising grandchildren. The results showed that older adults raising grandchildren were less participated in exercise compared with general seniors as well as their physical and mental health were much lower than that of general seniors. Additionally, with controling demographic factors participation of exercise could influence grandparents raising grandchildren's physical and mental health. Those results indicated that grandparents raising grandchildren were vulnerable to stress, physical and metal health. Providing opportunities to regularly participate in exercise could one of the strategies to improve physical and metal health of grandparents raising grandchildren.
