The classical manor system had been the most important and universal form of landownership during considerable period of time. In the 16th and 17th centuries, lords' monopolistic landownership and noneconomic compulsion were established and the classical manor system as a land management system came into existence and was practised in the main areas of Russia. In the 18th century, the classical manor system was practised in almost the whole Russia except the podzol area of the north. Of course, all the land wasn't organized and managed even in the regions where the classical manor system was carried out. But the proportion of the classical manor system that is expressed into labour rent in the form of rent was somewhat higher than the forms of landownership phrased in produce rent or money rent on a national scale. Such level had been maintained just before the Emancipation of 1861. So we can say that the classical manor system was the key and most important form of landownership during considerable period of time. On the other hand, such fact proves that the classical manor system was not peculiar to the northern Gaul or some areas of the western Europe at the Carolingian age, but a universal historical phenomenon.

러시아에서 고전장원제는 상당 기간 중요하고도 보편적인 토지소유 형태로서 존재했다. 16-17세기에는 러시아의 주요 지역에서 영주의 독점적 토지소유가 확립되고 영주가 농민을 지배할 수 있는 거의 완벽한 경제외적 강제가 수립됨과 동시에, 고전장원제적 토지경영 체제가 성립하여 실시되었다. 18세기에는 고전장원제가 척박한 북부의 포드졸 지역 정도를 제외하고 거의 러시아 전역에서 실시되었다. 고전장원제가 실시된 지역이라고 하더라도 모든 토지가 고전장원제로 조직되어 경영된 것은 아니었다. 그렇지만 지대의 형태 면에서 노동지대로 표현되는 고전장원제는 전국적으로 현물지대나 화폐지대로 된 토지소유 형태보다 좀 더 많았다. 이런 실시수준의 고전장원제는 1861년 농노해방령이 반포되기 직전까지 유지되었다. 그러므로 고전장원제는 러시아의 농촌경제사에서 상당 기간 중심적이고도 가장 중요한 토지소유 형태였다고 할 수 있다. 한편 이런 사실은 고전장원제가 카롤링시대의 갈리아 북부와 같은 일부 서유럽 지역에 특유한 일시적 현상이 아니라 상당히 보편적인 현상임을 분명히 한다.
