The purpose of this study was to provide baseline data for ‘multicultural education’ and to enhance relevant practical exercise at school by developing equivalent educational materials and operate these materials as a practical program in primary school to find out students’ awareness of multicultural societies as well as an impact on the correlation of students’ better understanding and satisfaction of the program. To achieve these goals, first, equivalent materials to teach multicultural education for primary students need to be developed. Second, a study of the impact of using these materials at classroom level is necessary. The mean impact of the study is a correlation of students’ understanding and satisfaction of the program. The achievement results according to the study are as follows: First, multicultural teaching tools were developed for five countries as they represent the most foreign residents in South Korea, they are: Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Filipino, and Mongolian. The educational materials comprise of the following: learning cultural characteristics of the country through storytelling, learning characteristics of the country by finding out symbolic icon activity, discovering unique characteristics by decorating traditional clothes of the country, and other activities such as experiencing a traditional house and playing traditional games. Second, the developed educational materials were taught to 2nd and 3rd grade primary school students using ex ante-ex post analysis to study the awareness of multicultural societies and their level of satisfaction of the class. The outcomes show that using these materials and activities lead to positive impacts on the students’ awareness of multicultural societies and improved their overall satisfaction of the class. To sum up, as the result indicates the positive impact on the students’ awareness of the multicultural societies and brought up the satisfaction level of the class by using the development of the equivalent education materials and the application of those materials, it is suggested to develop more equivalent materials about other countries and to study further research of the relevant materials and their applied impacts.

본 연구에서는 초등학교의 다문화교육을 위한 다문화교구를 개발하고 다문화 체험활동에 적용하여 초등학생들의 다문화 인 식 및 수업 만족도에 미치는 효과를 검증해 봄으로써 다문화교육을 위한 기초자료를 제공하고 학교현장에서의 활용성을 높 이는데 연구의 목적을 두고자 하였다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기위해 첫째, 초등학생용 다문화 교육을 위한 교구를 개발하고 둘째, 개발된 다문화교구를 다문화체험활동에 적용한 효과를 분석하는 것으로 연구문제를 설정하였다. 여기서 적용효과는 다문화인식과 수업만족도에 미치는 효과를 분석하였다. 이 연구를 통해 얻어진 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 현재 우리나라에 가장 많이 유입되어 있는 중국, 베트남, 일본, 필리핀, 몽 골 5개국의 교구를 개발하였다. 교구는 이야기를 통해 알아보는 나라정보 및 문화특징 익히기, 여러 가지 놀이 활동을 통해 나라의 특징을 알아보는 상징물 찾기, 각 나라의 전통의상을 직접 꾸며보고 특징을 알아보는 전통의상 꾸미기, 나라의 상징 물을 꾸미고 만들어 보는 상징물 꾸미기, 나라의 전통놀이, 전통가옥 등을 체험해 보고 만들어 보는 기타 활동으로 구성하였 다. 둘째, 개발된 다문화교구를 실험 적용 후 학생들의 다문화 인식의 변화와 수업 만족도를 알아보기 위하여 초등학교 3학년 2학급에 실험 적용하여 사전·사후 검사를 하였다. 그 결과 다문화교구를 활용한 다문화 체험활동이 아동의 다문화인식과 수 업 만족도에 긍정적인 효과를 나타내었다. 이상의 연구를 종합해 볼 때, 다문화 교구의 개발 및 적용이 초등학생의 다문화인식 및 수업만족도에 미치는 효과는 매우 긍 정적으로 나타난 만큼 다른 나라에 대한 수업에도 적용할 수 있는 다문화교구의 개발 및 적용효과에 대한 후속 연구를 제언 하는 바이다.
