This study aims to explore the effects of human-rights-friendly classroom culture on middle school students’ attitudes towards human rights. In this vein, We examine whether there are differences of attitudes toward human rights between human-rights-friendly classroom as experimental groups and human-rights-unfriendly classroom as control groups. The results are as follows: Human-rights-friendly classroom culture had a significant effect on the emotional attitude and the tendency of action of students towards human rights, but not on cognitive attitude. The findings are significant in human rights education in that it proved the effects of human-rights-friendly classroom culture on the students’ attitudes towards human rights. This study experientially proved that without direct human rights educational programs the human-rights-friendly classroom culture can affect students’ attitudes towards human rights. This is an important finding in regards to human rights cultivation.

본 연구의 목적은 친인권적 교실 문화가 중학생의 인권 태도를 향상시키는 데 효과가 있는지를 확인하는 것이다. 이를 위해, 본 연구는 친인권적 교실 문화를 경험한 집단과 그렇지 않은 집단의 사전-사후 검사를 통해 각 집단의 인권 태도를 확인해보았다. 그 결과, 친인권적 교실과 비인권적 교실 간 인권 태도에 대한 차이가 있었고, 사전-사후 비교를 통해 친인권적 교실에서의 인권 태도 변화도 유의미한 것으로 확인되었다. 인권 태도의 하위 구성요소별로는 정서적 태도와 행동 부분에서 효과를 확인할 수 있었고, 인지적 태도에서는 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 본 연구는 앞으로 인권 교육에 있어 특정 인권 교육 프로그램의 도입뿐 아니라 친인권적 교실 문화를 형성하는 것이 학생들의 인권 태도 함양에 중요한 변수임을 증명했다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
