The purpose of this study is to analyze structural relationship between family health, self-esteem, social support perceived by young drafted marines and adaptation to military life. To accomplish the study purpose, a self-reporting survey was made on 635 marines who were stationed in units above the marine brigade. The major findings of th study are as follows: It was found that family health perceived by young soldiers influenced self-esteem, social support and adaptation to military life both directly and indirectly, while self-esteem, social support affect adaptation to military life positively. Besides, social support was found to have the greatest effect on adaptation to military life as well as a positive mediating effect in the relations between family health and adaptation to military life, and self-esteem and adaptation to military life. All these findings imply that a program should be developed and implemented to increase self-esteem together with active support from peers and seniors to enhance the level of adaptation to military life of the soldiers

본 연구는 해병대에 입대하여 근무 중인 병사가 지각한 가족건강성과 자아존중감, 사회적 지지 및 군 생활적응 간의 구조적 관계를 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 해병대 여단급 이상 부대 병사 635명을 대상으로 자기보고식 설문을 실시하였다. 연구결과 병사들이 지각하고 있는 가족건강성은 자아존중감과 사회적 지지, 군 생활적응에 직·간접적인 영향을 미치며, 자아존중감과 사회적 지지도 군 생활 적응에 정의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 사회적 지지는 병사들의 군 생활 적응에 있어서 가장 높은 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 가족건강성과 군 생활 적응, 자아존중감과 군 생활 적응의 관계에서도 긍정적인 매개 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 병사들의 군 생활 적응력을 높이기 위해서는 동료 및 상급자의 적극적인 지지와 병사 개인의 자아존중감을 향상시킬 수 있는 교육프로그램이 개발되고 운영되어야 한다고 본다.
