This paper re-emphasizes theological and pastoral significances of (the rite of) confirmation. Confirmation, which is strongly connected to infant baptism, has theological importance because it affirms that God’s promises at infant baptism is true, that vows made by a church community at infant baptism is fulfilling, and that the baptized are coming up to the expectation of God and the church community. Confirmation is also pastorally important because it could provide the baptized adolescence who is dealing with identity crisis with good opportunities for healthy identity formation. This paper explores the process of historical and theological development of confirmation and argues for confirmation’s theological significances from the reformed perspective. After discussing how identity formation is important for the adolescence, this paper stresses on confirmation’s pastoral significance especially for them. It then suggests several ways to make the rite of confirmation more effectively.

이 논문은 입교의 신학적, 목회적 중요성을 다시금 강조한다. 유아 세례의 신학을 기반으로 하는 입교는, 유아 세례 시 하나님의 약속하신 것이 사실이었다는 것을 확인하고, 공동체가 하나님 앞에서 서약한 것을 성취하고 있다는 것을 확인하고, 유아 세례를 받은 이들을 향한 기대가 이루어져가고 있다는 것을 확인하는 의미에서 신학적인 중요성을 가진다. 또한 입교는 정체성에 대해 고민하는 (유아 세례를 받았던) 청소년들에게 올바른 정체성 확립을 위한 근거를 마련한다는 점에서 목회적인 중요성을 지닌다. 이 논문은 입교(견진)의 역사적, 신학적 발달 과정을 살펴보고, 개혁주의 입장에서 입교의 신학적 중요성을 논한다. 그리고 청소년기에 있어서 정체성 확립이 얼마나 중요한지를 논하면서 청소년들을 대상으로 하는 입교의 목회적 중요성을 강조한다. 그리고 보다 효과적인 입교예식을 위한 몇 가지 실제적인 방안을 제시한다.
