The purpose of this study is to suggest one relationship between the Bible and Handel's Messiah, another relationship between preaching and his oratorio, Messiah in worship. However, I do not interpret the text of the Bible in Handel's Messiah. In this paper, first, I write Handel's life in the Middle England(18C) in brief. Handel lived at a time, theology affected with the Enlightenment. In particular, Second, I consider Handel and Charles Jennens made use of the text of the Bible in both the words and the Greatest Oratorio in the Middle England(18C). Messiah's libretto was from Jennens who creatively took to wrote the words of this oratorio from the Bible. It was delivered to Handel by a parcel. Handel could compose his oratorio, Messiah. Third, preacher can compose Redemptive-Musical preaching by using Handel's Messiah and the Christian year, and he(her) can use Handel's Messiah in worship as Robert E. Webber's practical insight about the Christ-Centered worship. This is because Handel divided to compose Messiah into scene by Christ-Centered theological insight. Messiah's libretto is the meta-narrative of the Bible.

본 연구의 두 가지 목적은 성경과 Handel의 메시야의 관계, 예배 안에서 이루어질 설교와 그의 오라토리오인 메시야의 관계를 설명하는데 있으며 Handel의 메시야 가운데 있는 성경구절들을 해석하는데 그 의미를 두지 않는다. 논문의 목적에 부합되기 위하여 첫째, 18세기의 영국을 중심으로 활동했던 Handel의 일대기를 간략히 기술한다. Handel이 살았을 당시는 계몽주의가 신학에 영향을 주는 시대였다. 그러므로 Handel의 일대기를 통해 간략히 당시 시대상을 살피는 것이 도움이 될 것이다. 둘째, 어떻게 Handel과 Jennens가 성경을 활용하여 신성한 오라토리오인 메시야를 작사, 작곡할 수 있는지 살펴본다. Jennens는 독특하게 성경으로부터 오라토리오인 메시야의 가사를 붙였고 우편을 통하여 Handel에게 전달했다. 그리고 Handel은 Jennens가 쓴 가사에 작곡하여 오늘 우리가 알고 있는 메시야를 탄생시켰다. 셋째, 설교자가 어떻게 Handel의 메시야와 교회력을 활용하여 구속사적 음악설교를 작성할 수 있는지, 그리고 어떻게 Handel의 메시야를 활용하여 Webber의 그리스도 중심의 예배신학을 예배 가운데 이루어낼 수 있는지 방법을 제시한다. 왜냐하면 Handel은 메시야를 구속사적인 관점에서 각 장을 나누어 작곡하여 성경이 말하는 거대담론을 이야기하기 때문이다.
