Lee Cheong Jun has been highlighted as a writer who represents 60’s and 70’s literary world in Korea, whereas only few studies analyze his works in relevance with ‘sense.’ Hence, this paper will examine the symptoms of sensory disorder which is used as measure to reveal the disease of capitalism. According to Walter Benjamin, modernism and capitalism harm all kinds of human senses. He criticizes abstractionism and idealization of sense and seeks for recovery of physical and material sense, the sense synthetically cognizing the real. Also, Susan argues that we cannot live as the subject because our bodies are regulated in the capitalistic or socialistic society. She denounces the reality that human sensory perception is being anesthetized by modern technology. Likewise, the symptoms of sensory disorders from which people living in the capitalistic society suffer is the spot in question vividly indicating problems of present society, the aspects of modern people’s life as the non-subject. Lee Cheong Jun, in his works, shows the states of modern people going through the symptoms of sensory disorders and a series of efforts to get back their normal sense. In his ｢ Once you hear my story｣,｢The Variations on the theme of Bellybutton｣, he describes dystopian situation created by harmful effects of capitalism, focusing on the theme of power and human alienation, as he properly depicts Bear and Heowon, who experience the symptoms of sensory disorder. Hyeonsu and Seonhee in ｢Sadistic Discipline｣ and the husband and wife in ｢Scary Saturday｣, as the victims of power structure and human alienation in the capitalistic society, experience abnormal sense. Nevertheless, they are showing a touch of strive to overcome the symptoms of sensory disorder, as Hyeonsu in ｢Sadistic Discipline｣ trains sense of his daughter, Seonhee and the husband in ｢Scary Saturday｣ tries to restore relationship with his wife through true sensory play.

이청준은 60ㆍ70년대를 대표하는 작가로서 크게 주목받아 왔지만, 그의 작품을 ‘감각’과 연관 지어 분석한 연구는 적은 편이다. 그래서 본고에서는 이청준 소설에 서 자본주의의 병증을 드러내는 수단으로 사용된 감각의 이상 증세를 살펴보고자 한다. 발터 벤야민은 근대성, 자본주의가 인간의 모든 감각에 해를 가한다고 보고, 감 각의 추상화, 관념화를 비판하며 신체적이고 물질적인 감각, 통합적으로 실제를 인식하는 감각의 회복을 추구한다. 수잔 벅 모스도 자본주의나 사회주의 사회에서 몸이 통제되기 때문에 주체적으로 살아가지 못한다고 보며, 근대 기술에 의해 인 간의 감각적 지각이 마취학이 되어버리는 현실을 비판한다. 이와 같이 근대사회, 자본주의 사회에서 인간이 겪는 감각의 이상 증세는 현사회의 문제점과 비주체적 으로 살아가는 현대인의 모습을 극명하게 드러내는 지점인 것이다. 이청준은 작품을 통해 이러한 감각의 이상 증세를 겪는 현대인들의 모습과 정 상적인 감각을 회복하고자 하는 일련의 노력을 보여준다. ｢들어보면 아시겠지만｣, ｢배꼽을 주제로 한 변주곡｣에서는 자본주의의 폐해로 인해 발생한 디스토피아적 상황을 권력문제, 인간 소외 등에 집중해 그려내면서, 감각의 이상 증세를 겪는 곰 과 허원 등의 모습을 적실하게 표현하고 있다. ｢가학성 훈련｣의 현수, 선희와 ｢무 서운 토요일｣의 부부도 자본주의 사회의 권력관계, 인간 소외 문제 등을 겪는 인 물로서, 비정상적인 감각을 경험한다. 그러나 ｢가학성 훈련｣의 현수는 딸 선희의 감각을 훈련시키고, ｢무서운 토요일｣의 남편은 진정한 감각적 유희를 통해 부인과 의 관계를 회복하고자 함으로써 감각의 이상 증세를 극복하고자 하는 일말의 노 력을 보여주고 있다.
