This study investigates the corporate social responsibility expenditure and firm value. The sample used in this study is listed on the stock market from 2003 to 2010. The expenditures of corporate social responsibility activities according to their CSR character composed entirely of internal and external. The internal expenditures is Corporate Contributions, and also the external expenditures is benefits and training expense expenditures. The empirical results are as follows. The internal and external expenditures are positively related to the firm value. It means that the corporate social responsibility activities may be beneficial to firm value. Furthermore, it can be undertaken that benefits and training expense is not expenditure as an investment.

본 연구는 2003년 1월 1일부터 2010년 12월 31일까지 한국거래소의 유가증권시장에 상장된 기업을 대상으로 기업의 사회공헌활동과 기업가치에 미치는 영향에 대해서 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 기업의 사회공헌활동과 관련되어 지출되는 비용이 기업가치에 미치는 영향에 대해서 분석하고자 기업의 사회공헌활동과 관련되어 지출되는 비용을 사회공헌활동의 성격에 따라 기부금 지출액을 사회공헌활동의 외부로, 복리후생비와 교육훈련비를 내부로 구분하여 검증을 실시하였다. 실증분석결과 기업의 내부 및 외부 사회공헌활동과 기업가치와는 양(+)의 관련성을 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과로 기업과 경영자는 기부금 지출이나 종업원의 복지와 관련된 복리후생비와 교육훈련비 등이 단순히 비용으로써의 의미가 아니라 무형자산 투자로 간주할 수 있고 기업가치에 긍정적인 영향을 줄 수 있다는 것으로 해석해볼 수 있다.
