The purpose of this study is to suggest some ideas of church social worker’s roles. For the study, the data were collected from a convenience sample of 397 church members living at the Gwangju metropolitan City, and Jeollanam-Do. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS WIN(ver21.0) program, and descriptive analysis, t-test, and Scheffe test were utilized. As the result, this survey found that the subjects had much recognition about necessary of the church social workers, but they have low recognition about church social worker's role and unclear classification of role of the church social workers. To over come this difficulties, this study suggests necessary social worker who study both theology and social welfare, and can be hired as a assistant ministry. In addition, it is necessary to establish a church social worker's roles; not only changing agent, case manager, but also administrator. Through the discussion based on the study result, this study suggests relationship between the social welfare institutions, develop education program to improve expertise.

본 연구는 교인들의 교회사회복지사에 대한 역할 인식을 통하여 교회사회복지 사들이 어떠한 역할을 해야 하는지 알아보고자 수행되었다. 2013년 8월 10일 부터 9월 6일까지 광주 전남 지역에 소재하는 교회를 다니고 있는 교인들 중 총 397명을 조사하여 자료 분석에 활용하였다. 분석결과 첫째, 교회사회복지사의 필요성에 대한 교인들의 인식은 매우 높 은 편이었다. 둘째, 교회사회복지사들은 신학과 사회복지를 전공하는 것이 더 적절한 것으로 나타났는데, 교회사회복지사의 근무형태로는 신학과 사회복지 를 전공한 부교역자가 가장 선호되었으며, 다음으로 유급사회복지전문가 순으 로 나타났다. 셋째, 교회사회복지사들은 교인과 지역사회주민을 대상으로 향후 심방, 전도, 교육, 설교, 행정 등 교회 사역과 사회복지 업무 모두에 있어서 역 할을 해야 한다. 넷째, 교회사회복지사들은 일반사회복지사들에게 공통으로 해 당하는 역할을 해야 하며, 특히 직접적인 서비스를 제공하는 변화대행자와 사 례관리자의 역할과 함께 행정업무에 대한 행정가로서의 역할을 우선적으로 감 당해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 이와 같은 연구결과를 토대로 신학과 사회복지를 전공한 교회사회복지사의 양성, 교회 사회복지사의 역할에 대한 인식을 확대보급할 것을 제언하였다.
