In this work i shall compare the version of Taewonji sotred at the royalarchives in Korea and the chinese Qing writing Kyeonhwayeon. Through thiscomparative approach i will try to outline the peoples understanding of oceanexploration in both Qing China and Choson. First of all I shall collect all mygeneral observations of the outline to get a overall view. As next step I shalldivide the content of both into intention, process and result to understand thegeneral differnces and similarities. And lastly I tried to clarify how the oceanexploration was understood. In both novels the main characters are inmersedin a mainly chinese dominated world view and cultural background. Butthrough the ocean exploration the the original woldview is shattered and atransfer to a new understanding is beginning. Differently from thatChina-centered worldview in Kyeonhwayeon, some very intersting alterationsoccur in a rather critical and selfreflective way.

본고에서는 장서각본 소설 <태원지>와 중국 청나라 때 소설 <경화연>의 해양 탐험담에대해 비교 연구를 시도하였다. 이를 통해서 비슷한 시기에 향유되었던 두 작품의 해양 탐험양상을 고찰하고 해양 탐험담에 담겨진 두 나라 사람들의 인식 지향을 규명하고자 하였다. 먼저 <태원지>와 <경화연>의 해양 탐험담 개관을 살피면서 예비적 고찰을 진행하였다. 다음으로 해양 탐험의 내용을 동기, 과정, 결과 세 부분으로 나누어 해양 탐험 양상을 살폈고 유사성과 변별성을 밝혔다. 마지막으로 해양 탐험담에 나타난 인식 지향을 밝혔다. 두 작품의 주인공들은 해양 탐험 초기에는 모두 중국 중심의 세계 인식을 기본으로 하고 있었다. 하지만 해양 탐험을 거쳐 <태원지>에서는 중화권을 벗어난 새로운 세계를 지향하고 있으며 그 세계와의 소통의 가능성을 열어두고 있다. 이와 달리 <경화연>의 해양 탐험담은 여전히 중화주의인식을 고수하면서 기존 문화에 대한 자기반성과 비판 의식이 내재되어 있다고 볼 수 있다.
