The international development cooperation in Korean Buddhist community are expanding to the Third World. The cooperation is later than those of the other religious community in Korea, but it has been developed actively during these 10 years. The start was by the Korea JTS in India at 1991 and after the starting such Korean Buddhist communities like JTS for the international development cooperation have being increased. The representative NGO groups are Korea JTS, GoodHands, Lotusworld, thepromise etc. About 20 groups of them are expanding their business overseas, from the Buddhist nations like Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Cambodia to the African nations. The purpose of this study is to propose the developing directions and review the international cooperation of Korean Buddhist communities that are trying to put into practice “the sharing” and “the mercy” to the poor and the humble in abroad. The purpose of the international cooperations is consist with the buddhism. So the international cooperation trend is inevitable according to the Buddhistic theory of casuality. To exam the purpose, above all, this study observed the developing process, prospects and tasks of the Korean Buddhist’s international development cooperations. After the reviewing, this study proposed two types of model; Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement and Catuddisa Sangha movement. Also, this study suggested that Korean Buddhist international cooperations communities should construct the supporting systems for the international disasters, prepare the activation plan and set the visions of the international development cooperation in Korean Buddhist community.

불교계의 국제개발협력이 세계화시대에 맞추어 제 3세계 국가로 확대되고 있다. 불교계의 국제 개발협력은 다른 종교에 비해 늦었지만 최근 10여 년 동안 활발하게 전개되고 있는데, 불교계에 서 최초의 국제개발협력은 1991년 인도에서 “한국JTS”에 의해서 시작되었다고 할 수 있으며, 이 후로 불교계 국제개발협력 관련 활동단체는 급격히 늘어나고 있는 양상이다. 불교계 대표적인 국제개발NGO단체로는 한국JTS, 지구촌공생회, 로터스월드, 더프라미스 등의 20여개의 단체들이 활동하고 있으며, 네팔, 인도, 스리랑카, 미얀마, 캄보디아 등의 불교국가를 중심으로 해서 아프리카에 이르기까지 10여 개국에서 사업을 확대하고 있는 추세이다. 본 연구의 목적은 세계화시대에 여러 나라의 빈곤을 비롯한 국제사회 문제를 극복하고 더불어 살아가기 위해 국제개발협력에 참여하는 것은 불교의 ‘연기관’에 입각해 볼 때 당연하다고 할 수 있는데, 이 세상에 현세정토를 구현하고 제3세계의 빈곤과 소외된 사람들에게 자비와 나눔을 실 천함으로써 이들의 아픔을 치유하려는 불교계의 국제개발협력에 관해 고찰해 보고 발전방향을 제시하려는데 있다. 불교계의 국제개발협력에 관한 현황과 과제를 연구하기 위해, 먼저 한국의 국제개발협력 발전과 정을 살펴보고, 불교계의 국제개발협력 현황을 고찰하며, 불교계의 국제개발협력 전망과 과제를 모색해 보았다. 세계화로 인한 국제사회의 문제해결과 공생을 추구하기 위해서, 불교계 국제재난구호활동의 지 원체계를 구축하고, 불교계 국제개발협력과 NGO단체의 비전과 활성화 방안 마련해야 한다. 불 교적 국제개발협력 모델로는 사르보다야 슈라마다나운동과 사방승가운동을 제시하였다. 불교계의 국제개발협력이 제3세계에서 일회성이 아닌 지속가능하기 위해서는 단순히 물질적인 원조활동만이 아니라, 정신적인 각성을 통해 더불어 살아갈 수 있는 방안을 마련해야 한다. 한국 의 국제개발협력은 종교와 관련성이 높은 편으로 불교계는 이 세상에 현세정토를 구현하기 위해 서라도 적극적인 참여를 할 필요가 있다.
