The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of the fashion shows and designs of Nora Noh, a first generation Korean fashion designer, from the 1950s to the 1990s. The research also examines aspects of the development of Korean fashion design by highlighting Nora Noh’s fashion. The specific research questions are; What are the important features in Nora Noh’s fashion shows and designs from the 1950s to the 1990s? What are the characteristics exhibited in each decade of Nora Noh’s designs and what are the works that affected fashion and modern history of Korea in the mid to late twentieth century? The researchers deployed a qualitative research method providing a systematic review of the previous studies by analyzing content as well as oral statement interviews and a case study of Nora Noh. The positive research method was also included. Twenty-five Nora Noh fashion collections were analyzed by the leaflets possessed by Nora Noh and printed media such as newspapers, program sheets and fashion magazines. The results show that the characteristics of Nora Noh’s designs are: A ‘mixed style era’ for the 1950s, an ‘established style era’ for the 1960s, a ‘design differentiation era’ for the 1970s, a ‘fabric and print characterizing era’ for the 1980s, and a ‘returned classic line era’ for the 1990s. To sum up, Nora Noh is one of the first generation Korean fashion designers who led the Korean fashion system and trends in the mid to late twentieth century.

본 연구의 목적은 1950년대부터 1990년대까지 노라노(노명자) 디자인과 노라노 관련 자료를 분석하여 노라노의 패션쇼와 디자인 특성을 추출하고 이를 통해 한국 패션디자인사 발전과정의 일면을 고찰하는데 있다. 연구목적 달성을 위한 연구문제는 다음과 같다: 첫째, 출처가 명확한 1950년대부터 1990년대까지 노라노의 패션쇼와 디자인은 어떤 것이 있으며 이를 통해 추출된 노라노 디자인의 시대별 특성은 어떻게 구분되는가? 둘째, 패션쇼와 디자인분석을 통해 추출된 노라노의 작품 중 한국 패션디자인 발전과정에서 주목해야 할 작품은 무엇이며 그 특성은 무엇인가? 본 연구는 문헌연구, 자료 및 내용분석을 연구방법으로 채택하였으며 내용분석을 위한 사실검증 및 시대적 상황 고찰을 위해 연구자가 진행한 구술채록연구(2012)와 선행연구면담(2013) 이외에 본고를 위한 실증면담연구를 추가했다. 본 연구의 결과 연구대상자 소장 리플렛과 인쇄물 분석으로 밝혀진 근거가 명확한 노라노의 패션쇼는 총 25건으로 밝혀졌으며, 1950년대부터 1990년대 노라노 디자인의 유형은 1950년대 ‘스타일 혼재기’, 1960년대 ‘스타일 정립기’, 1970년대 ‘디자인 차별화기’, 1980년대 ‘소재와 프린트패턴 특성화기’, 1990년대 ‘클래식라인 회귀기’로 추출되었다. 노라노는 제1세대 한국패션디자이너 중 한명으로 한국 근현대 패션사에서 해외트렌드 유입과 고급기성복 패션시스템구축에 일조했다.
