The paper compares Yeats and Plato. Yeats has a dual view on Plato’s dualism. While Yeats agrees with Plato who pursues the intentionality of a psychic and transcendental realm through the world of Idea, he is opposed to Plato’s depreciating a physical realm by emphasizing a spiritual realm. Yeats respects both sides. In his early poems, Yeats’s yearning for dreams is similar to the thought of Eros in Plato. His creative imagination is derived from his consciousness of the lack of reality, which is also analogous to Plato’s Eros; the process of conflicts and struggles in Yeats’s Unity of Being parallels Plato’s idea of Eros.
