As the drift of population among countries is increased due to the progress of the globalization, the world is being converted to a multiethnic-multicultural society. After early 2000s, Korean society is reached the point of view to have to prepare the multicultural society, as the immigrant including marriage migrant, resident escaping from North Korea as well as a foreign worker etc increase and are visualized. Hence this study is aimed to search for the meaning of the multicultural in Korean society and to provide the issue that the community public library should be the role and the service in the multicultural society. The method of study to use for this is the literature research, the calling interview, the library homepage, and the case analysis. By the result of this study, the role of the public library in the multicultural society has to be the closest educational institution. Moreover by the multi-cultural center, it is showed to have to be a lifelong educational place to be able to be educated and be close most comfortably the immigrant as well as the sedentary population. Also the multicultural service of the public library in the multicultural society are proposed by the following 6 on the basis of the public library manifesto of IFLA. (1) culturally diverse multilingual collections service, (2) reference service and language education program service, (3) infant care and education program service, (4) cultural program service, (5) information literacy program service, (6) settlement supporting program service.
