Several debates exist between scholars about the significance and the interpretation of 『DaShinJeon(茶神傳)』. Main purpose of this study is to clarify the five issues of them. 1. He was supposed to stay more than a year in ChiBulSa(七佛寺). However, considering the several activiteis in remote places, his staying period is assumed to be not more than two months, and reasonably less than a month. 2. There also a arguments about the meaning of ‘follow’ in preface. Most people say it means ‘follow the master’, but it should be interpreted as ‘follow the intention of master’. 3. 『DaShinJeon』 was finished after three stages, but these three steps were not considered to be significant. In this study, three stages are clearly defined as ①Quickly wrote the characters ②Rewrite it as a clean readable form ③Reedit it to clear the errors and omissions in the 『ManBoJeonSeo(萬寶全書)』. 4. The hidden purpose of ChoEui(艸衣) in editing the 『DaShinJeon』 is to add some practical meaning in drinking tea over the spiritual meaning of famous monk JoJu(趙州) in China. 5. Two most important contributions of writing 『DaShinJeon』 are ① Introducing ChoChung SanCha(炒靑散茶) in Korea, and ②providing the foundation to write the most famous and important book of 『DongDaSong (東茶頌)』.

초의는 칠불사 아자방에서 『만보전서』의 「다경채요」 부분을 초록하여 『다신전』이라 이름 붙였다. 본 논문에서는 『다신전』 등초의 의의에 대해 기존 논점과 다른 해석과 그 논리의 정당성 을 제시하였다. 첫째, 초의선사의 칠불사 방문기간에 대한 지금까지의 견해는 무자(1828)년 여름에서 이듬해까지 1년 남짓 머물렀다는 것이다. 그러나 같은 해 10월 나주 남평 운흥사에서 수계식이 있었던 점을 고 려할 때 칠불사에서 체류기간은 최장 2개월을 넘지 않았던 것으로 분석하였다. 둘째, 隨師於方丈山七佛啞院謄抄下來에서 隨의 의미를 ‘스승을 동행하거나 수행한다’가 아니라 ‘ 스승의 뜻에 따라’로 보았다. 그러므로 금담의 권유에 따라『다신전』을 등초하였으므로 ‘스승의 뜻에 따라 방장산 칠불아원에서 등초하여 내려왔다.’로 해석하였다. 셋째, 등초(騰抄), 정초(正抄), 정서(正書)의 의미를 명확히 구분하여 등초는 『다신전』을 혼자 알 아 볼 수 있게 거칠게 베낀 것이고, 정초는 알아보기 쉽도록 정자로 쓴 것이며, 정서는 잘못된 내용 을 고쳐가며 깨끗하게 다시 쓴 것으로 정의하였다. 넷째, 초의는 차를 마시는 목적이 조주풍의 추상화된 관념적 다도 이외에 일상적인 생활 속에서 평 상심시도(平常心是道)를 구현하기 위한 수단으로써 초의는 선뿐만 아니라 차도 함께 수용하자는 의미로 보았다. 다섯째, 『다신전』 등초의 목적과 의의는 다도교육의 목적, 새로운 초청산차 제다법의 발견, 『동 다송』 저술의 기초가 되었다는 점이다
