This study examines the link between sexual and physical abuse against male delinquents to their violent delinquency in the frame work of social learning theory. In order to examine the relationship clearly, various risk factors in predicting juvenile delinquency in the prior studies, such as delinquent peer association, attachment to family, teacher and school, and parental divorce, etc. To examine the relationship, this study utilized a data drawn from high risk youths who were contacted to various types of correctional facilities as well as under a certain types of probation. Using a sample of 300 delinquent boys, this study used a set of step-wies multivariate analyses and revealed supportive findings for the social learning theory and found evidence supporting the link between sexual abuse and their violent delinquency among male delinquents. Also, this study found that some potential mediation and/or moderation effects of the both sexual and physical abuse on differential association with delinquent peers and family attachment among the male delinquent youths. However, this interpretations is not conclusive because the analyses do not provide evidence examining the mediation and or moderation role of the both abuse experience in this study. Also, this study found the significant influence of parental divorce on male delinquent’s violent delinquency. The contribution, implications and limitations of the study were discussed in the study.

이 연구는 남자 비행청소년들이 아동기나 이른 청소년기에 경험하는 성적학대와 신체적 학대의 경험과 이들의 폭력적 비행의 관계에 대해서 사이해하고자 하였다. 특히 성적 학대와 신체적 학대의 두 피해경험 중 남자 비행청소년들의 폭력성을 증가시키는 위험요인이 무엇인지를 사회학습이론이 이론적 틀을 적용하여 이해하고자 하였다. 따라서 학대와 남자 비행청소년들의 폭력적 행위간의 관계를 분명히 이해하기 위해 다양한 혼란을 줄 수 있는 요인들(가족구조, 비행친구와의 차별적 접촉, 가족에 대한 애착 등)이 분석에 포함되었다. 이러한 연구의 목적을 위해서 300명의 남자 비행청소년들을 대상으로 수집된 데이터가 사용하여 단계적 회귀분석을 수행하였다. 분석결과는 사회학습이론을 근간으로 하여 Widom(1989)에 의해 제시된 ‘폭력의 순환’이라는 개념을 지지하는 결과를 보여주었다. 즉, 성적학대와 신체적 학대는 남자 비행청소년들의 폭력적 비행을 증가시키는 중요한 위험요인들이었다. 그리고 그 외에 비행친구와의 차별적 접촉이 중요한 위험요인인 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 Widom과 일부 신체적 학대의 폭력성 증가가 성적학대의 폭력성 증가의 위험보다 크다는 선행연구들의 결과와는 달리 성적학대의 영향이 폭력적 비행에 더 크고 지속적으로 영향력을 나타내고 있었다. 이에 반해 신체적 학대의 영향은 비행친구들과의 차별적 접촉을 중재하는 것이 아닌가 하는 분석결과를 제시하였다. 특히, 부모의 이혼/별거가 미치는 영향이 중요하다는 것을 발견하였다. 이 연구의 결과, 공헌점, 제한점, 그리고 앞으로의 연구에 대한 제안 등이 결론과 논의에 자세히 설명되어있다.
