The purpose of this study was to investigate whether mental health had mediating effects on the influences of job stress on happiness among correctional officers. The subjects include 500 correctional officers. Collected data were put to the Sobel test for multiple regression analysis and mediating effects testing. The findings were as follows: first, job stress experienced by correctional officers turned out to have positive relations with their mental health at a significance level. Secondly, there were negative relations at a significant level between job stress and happiness experienced by correctional officers. Finally, mental health played the roles of a significant mediating variable in relations between job stress and happiness experienced by correctional officers. Based on those findings, the study discussed suggestions to promote the mental health and happiness of correctional officers.

본 연구는 교정공무원이 경험한 직무스트레스가 행복에 미치는 영향을 정신건강이 매개하는지 검증하기 위한 것으로 교정공무원 500명을 대상으로 하였다. 조사된 자료는 다중회귀분석과 매개효과 검증을 위한 Sobel Test를 실시하였다. 연구결과는 첫째, 교정공무원이 경험하는 직무스트레스는 정신건강과 유의한 수준의 정적인 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 교정공무원이 경험하는 직무스트레스와 행복은 유의한 수준의 부적인 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 정신건강은 교정공무원이 경험하는 직무스트레스와 행복 간의 관계에서 유의미한 매개변수의 역할을 수행하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과들을 바탕으로 교정공무원의 정신건강과 행복 증진을 위한 제언을 논의하였다.
