This study investigated the procedures for establishing trade cooperatives and determinedtheir priorities in management using an Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP). For this purpose,this study analysed the differences between cooperators and cooperative members tostrategies for effective management. With respect to priorities, the most important elementsfor both cooperators and cooperative members were the establishment of profitable modeland the financing plan. Cooperators gave priority to six factors in the social mission andfour factors in the management while cooperative members gave priority to two factorsin the social mission and eight factors in the management. That is, cooperators putemphasis on the social mission while cooperative members focused on management. Suchdifferences presented suggestions for support directions for federal and local governments orintermediate support organizations. This paper has a limit in that all of the intervieweeslive in Gwangju city. It means that further studies should include interviewees of variousregions to have more general results.
