The Development of Group Counseling Program to reduce Test Anxiety of High School Students

The research seeks to prove effects of group counseling program to reduce test anxiety of high school students. To do this, the research examined results of previous studies on test anxiety and constituent factors of anxiety responses in testing scale, and selected 6 test anxiety subfactors based on common elements. Based on these constituent factors, the research formed 11 sessions of group counseling program to reduce test anxiety of high school students. To verify hypothesis, the research selected 22 1st grader students, whose having a high test anxiety. They were divided into two groups: 11 students were in the treatment group and the other 11 students were in the control group. The test tool was 'Anxiety Responses in Testing Scale' of Park Byeong-gi, Im Sin-il, Kim Eo-jin(2008). For the data processing, 'Mixed ANOVA' was used to analyze statistical results. To complement the limits of quantitative research, the analysis of students' experience reports and counselor's observations was also presented. Results showed that group counseling program to reduce test anxiety had positive impact on a test anxiety of high school students.
