The example places appeared to 4th grade 'stratum and fossil' unit of the elementary science were suggested by materials in the specific areas. Thus, there are a lot of points unfamiliar with students from other areas. The aim of this study is to develop the local alternative learning materials, especially stratum and sedimentary rock in 2007 revised curriculum. It is also to develop experience learning program and worksheets for elementary students by using the local learning materials. For this, we investigated to look the alternative learning materials to the textbook contents related to the stratum and sedimentary rock in several locations of Jeju-do through field work. By specifying one place in investigated locations, the experience learning program applicable to the actual teaching plans and worksheets were developed. The developed materials will be useful as regional-specific teaching materials for teachers to prepare 'stratum and fossil' unit. Also, students will be able to learn the concepts using the local alternative learning materials related to stratum and sedimentary rock in the nearby regions.

2007 개정 교육과정의 초등과학 4학년 ‘지층과 화석’ 단원에 나오는 예시 장소들은 특정 지역의 자료들로 제시되어 있어 이와 다른 지역의 학생들에게는 생소한 감이 많다. 이에 본 연구에서는 이 단원의 학습 주제인 지층과 암석에 대한 지역 대체 자료를 개발하여 교사와 학생들에게 도움을 주고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 교과서에 제시된 장소를 대체할 수 있는 제주도에서 학습 가능한 장소를 중심으로 개발하였다. 그리고 선정된 장소 중 한 곳을 지정하여 실제 체험 학습에 적용할 수 있는 교수․학습과정안과 활동지를 개발하였다. 개발된 자료는 이 단원에 대해 수업을 준비하는 교사들에게 유용하게 사용될 수 있으며, 학생들은 살고 있는 지역에서 학습 자료를 찾을 수 있어 학습 요소에 대한 구체적이고 확실한 개념을 얻을 수 있을 것이다.
