The purpose of this study is to examine and understand college preservice teachers' career decision-making processes. Specifically, the qualitative study seeks to highlight how and why preservice teachers who attend teachers colleges or college of education withdraw from teaching as a career. In-depth interviews were conducted with eight college students who have had prepared for the national examination for prospective teachers and have recently given up being a public school teacher. There were four primary categories of findings: (a) motivation for teachers' college or college of education enrollment, (b) facing harsh reality, (c) anxiety and isolation, and (d) exploring alternative career opportunities.

본 연구의 목적은 사범대생들의 진로변화 과정에 대해 탐구하는 것이다. 이를 위해 사범대학에 재학 중이며 교생실습을 마친 4학년으로서 진로변화 과정을 경험하고 있는 8명의 학생을 대상으로 심층면담을 실시하였다. 참여 학생들이 교직 포기 후 진로변화를 겪는 과정과 원인으로 ‘사범대 진학동기’, ‘현실 직시’, ‘불안감 및 고립감’, ‘대안적 진로 탐색’ 등의 범주를 발견하였고, 각 범주에 대해 하위범주, 개념 등을 발견하여 각각의 범주와 개념이 지니고 있는 의미를 이해하고 해석하였다. 본 연구를 통해 사범대생들의 진로변화라는 것은 단순히 학생 개인적 차원에서의 취업준비 활동 측면에 중점을 두어 파악하기보다, 이러한 과정을 통해 자신을 재발견하는 기회를 갖게 된다는 점에서 보다 중요한 의미를 부여할 수 있다.
