The purpose of this study is to analyze the error patterns appeared in genetics problem solving process by science-gifted students and general students. A group of science gifted and general students solved eight problems on genetics which were specially developed for this study. We analyzed the error patterns shown in the problems solving process and compared the frequency of each error pattern between the science-gifted students and the general students. Main results of the study can be summarized as follows. (1) In superordinate categories, types of error appeared in genetics problem solving process can be classified into error of conceptions, logical error, error of process, no response. (2) The error frequency of science gifted students was lower than that of general students by one-third. (3) The most frequent error type shown in the science-gifted students was the error of genetics conceptions; whereas the error of probability conceptions was the most popular error type in the general students. Difference of the error patterns between the science-gifted and the general students shows that each group has their own cognitive difficulties, therefore the different teaching strategies are required in genetic class.

본 연구에서는 유전 문제를 해결함에 있어 문제 해결 과정 중에 보이는 오류의 유형이 어떠한지 살펴보고 과학영재와 일반 학생의 유형별 빈도 차이를 분석해 보았다. 그 결과, 유전 문제 해결 과정 중 보인 오류의 유형에는 개념의 오류, 논리의 오류, 실행의 오류와 무응답의 오류로 4가지가 있었으며 개념의 오류에는 유전 개념의 오류, 확률 개념의 오류, 관련 기본지식 결여의 오류가 있었고, 논리의 오류에는 과일반화의 오류, 논점 일탈의 오류가 있었으며, 실행상의 오류에는 연산의 오류, 잘못된 해석의 오류, 조건 누락의 오류, 불완전한 종결의 오류, 표기상의 오류가 있었고 마지막으로 무응답의 오류가 있었다. 오류 유형 빈도에 있어서는 과학영재가 일반 학생보다 오류의 빈도가 1/3 수준이었으며, 개념의 오류, 논리의 오류, 실행의 오류 빈도에서는 두 그룹간 통계적 유의한 차이가 있었으나, 무응답의 오류에서는 차이가 없었다. 과학영재와 일반 학생에게서 오류 유형 빈도수에 차이가 있음은 그들이 가지고 있는 인지적 능력에 따라 어려움을 겪고 있는 부분이 다름을 뜻하며, 따라서 교수 방법 또한 달라져야 할 것이다.
